A MESSAGE FROM A SENIOR TO ALL MY JUNIORS REGARDING BULLYING/RAGGING

Ragging is one of those traditions which are followed in colleges sometimes in schools as well, considered to be an introduction to the fellow juniors from the seniors for fun and to create familiarity. Firstly, it was introduced buy Britishers to stop Indians from attending colleges. Then eventually our Indian education system kept following it and therefore adapting it.

Eventually, ragging turned into something torturous and for tormenting follow juniors in the name of introduction. Pushing to the limits and further challenging their morals and upbringing. From giving random dull dates to molesting, torturing, abusing, etc., has become the journey of ragging throughout the years.

Me, being a senior, graduated BBA LLB in the year 2021, wants to say sorry, if ever you all have experienced such inhuman treatment. Furthermore, talking about bullying, is the use of force, coercion, hurtful teasing or threat, to abuse, aggressively dominate or intimidate without caring how their action is effect the other person.

Ragging and bullying are both effect of person’s own insecurities surfacing, to create a confident and powerful false aura, they tend to hurt others with words or actions. People now have become so frustrated with their own life and happenings that they find happiness in bringing people down.

Same goes with, online hate words. The hate speech used as comments or reactions is tormenting. Saying someone is obese, without knowing is it an unhealthy lifestyle or some traumatic disease or some eating disorder. Judging and passing comments is wrong. Bullying is done even at home my our own parents’ and siblings, sometimes unintentionally.

So how can we change that, well we know not always we can control our anger, frustration, insecurities, etc., but that doesn’t allow us to be hurtful to others, i.e., to fulfill our own happiness- scale. We have to promise ourselves, that no matter what we won’t be that person. We cannot change the thinking of our older generation, all we can do is make ourselves better.
In this Pandemic all we have learnt is, life can end anytime, but we can do small things to make us happy and we don’t know what the other person is dealing with or going through. So let’s build mankind with just small gestures for others and eventually ourselves.
