The worst had happened when the United States had withdrawn its forces from Afghanistan the last time well, similar situations are brought this time under the governance of Joe Biden. When the U.S troops abruptly left Afghanistan without a proper hand over to the Afghan government and their security forces, a sudden take over by the Taliban has taken place. The Afghan president Ashraf Ghani in terror has left the presidency unstable and very volatile to these invading forces. The citizens of Afghanistan, other foreigners working there are very much in crisis for their protection from the terrorist group Taliban. In the past Taliban had shown brutal dominance, inflicting injustice to the women, creating violence, and disrupting the whole Democratic system in Afghanistan.
Where does Afghanistan lie in this situation?
Leaving of the U.S troops has weakened the morale of the ANDSF (Afghanistan National Defence And Security Forces) led by President Ashraf Ghani and now the state is lacking for the security of its citizens.
Many other provinces led by their district leaders are trying to fight against the Taliban. One of the first women governors, Salima Mazari who took up arms to fight against the Taliban in trying to protect the Balkh province captured in Afghanistan. Events in Afghanistan are moving much faster, the Taliban is claiming to be controlling 14 of 34 provinces, however, their control over the cities is questionable since few of the Taliban soldiers are just seen moving on the streets. It seems that some amount of force from the Afghanistan forces could oust the terrorist group, but for the moment counter-attack has not come. Many wonder if Kabul would be next.
Moreover, the plans of the Taliban seem to be different, the Taliban supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada forcefully took over the control of the state and is determining the terms of its ruling. He has promised they would be providing security and respect to the women in the society as well as in the government as long as everyone follows the Sharia laws and abandon the democratic system. Taliban takeover has been quicker in the process due to many, local governments, warlords, and politicians who withdrew their power by making adjustments or settlements with the Taliban. Some exceptions, like Mazar e Sharif, however, where the Taliban has been held off by commanders like Mohammad Ata Noor and Dostum. What stands out is the absence of the Northern Alliance commanders of the past, who were able to fight the Taliban in 2001. From the actions of the Taliban, it seemed a tactic to let the US troop successfully complete its pull out so that they could try to get a hold of the state. although the worries have heightened, when the US announced to send 3,000 troops for the evacuation of the 3,000 personnel including the civilians working at the US Embassy, indicating the untrustworthiness of the terrorist group.
Where does India stand in this?
India has successfully evacuated its civilians from the clutches of the Taliban forces, however, the conditions of the Sikhs and Hindu minorities taking asylum in a Gurudwara are worrisome. MEA has said nothing about the Afghani refugees, Though they have been allowed shelter in India since the 1980s. However, with the Modi government firmly supporting the Citizenship Amendment Act, the situation for the refugees is still unclear.
History tells us Pakistan was one of the countries which recognized The Taliban when it was in power in Afghanistan. While, India is bracing for the impact of the Taliban in power, which could give a tactical advantage to Pakistan. If the Taliban is in power, the Pakistani military and intelligence will practically own the country. Given all this, in my opinion, India could give a further supply of forces to the ANDSF and help the Afghan government to stay in power, so that the influence of the terrorist group be minimized and a stable government can once again be actualized.
