We often find people saying that I can’t do this I’m 60 years old, I should retire by the age of 58 years, It won’t go on me well as I am old, I’m old so I should not try something new, etc.Age is just a number. Why do we consider such barrier for ourselves? With age comes wide range of experiences. From these experiences one can explore into new adventures. What is important is our ability to do the task and the willingness to do it. Few people struggle their entire lives in order provide best for their children. In that process they forget to live for themselves. They give up on their dreams, hobbies, passion. When everything is set they want to pursue their hobbies but what holds them back is the age factor. One must not stop for just being old. Age doesn’t define the ability to work if you work wholeheartedly.
Especially in a country like India where the age of retirement is fixed it’s very much difficult to continue to work after retirement. Even one finds it difficult to learn something new after retirement as the perspective of people changes. It is we who have created such unnecessary barrier of age. One must constantly strive for betterment and must learn new things, keep oneself updated Irrespective of the age. We should encourage the elderly to pursue their dreams which they left behind for numerous reasons. As every moment should be cherished and lived to its fullest. We must help the people who retire to keep themselves busy with some activities so that they don’t stop. This would make difference in our and their lives as well.
