Since the month of March almost most of us are working from home. The Covid 19 Pandemic has definitely brought a huge change in our lives and lifestyle. Since, last few years I had been working from home so it was nothing new for me but for my husband it was definitely something new.
To complete your task in the midst of unending demands of a toddler and an infant, who are in their own world, it was definitely a new challenge for him. My husband works as a Head – Human Resources with a firm in Mumbai, which meant majority of his time was spent in making everyone comfortable with the new way of working.

Frankly speaking, Yes, even for us, it had been a roller coaster ride. Somehow everyone was hungry all the time and my kids manage to soil and change clothes every hour. I do not know how does that happen, but I guess kids will be kids. Life was almost like a tickling clock, every minute was unpredictable. I wanted to keep them engaged through different activities like drawing, painting and other creative arts but that also ended up in messy clothes.
Gardening was one new activity that both the kids enjoyed doing together. Well in reality their role was limited only in following instructions but I am glad they understood the importance of food, when they started growing their own plants. Suraj had got a moong plant from his school, which he had sown before the lockdown, we nurtured the same plant and viola, we got little moong during our lockdown.
My son is 5 years old and my daughter is 1 year old. As every siblings, they would want to do an activity together, as well as end up fighting about different things together. Whether it was enjoying their favourite Aamras or chocolates, they ensured to make it memorable by staining their clothes. Yes, children are meant to enjoy to their childhood but in the process, they end up increasing my blood pressure.
I also taught my son to chop vegetables because he already had a good hold on scissors. I ensured to prevent any accidents and only gave him task that he was comfortable. This helped in increasing his self confidence as he felt that he had achieved something and contributed to an important task. Hereunder is the video which I took.
In a way, my husband working from home also turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Most of the times, my temper was directly proportional to the height of the laundry. Even though we have a Washing Machine, the task of sorting the clothes, and the pressure to ensure that my son’s favourite T-shirt was available, when he wanted was always there. So we finally decided to divide our chores. I would get the clothes washed and dried and my husband would fold them and keep it in our wardrobe.
What we often forget is, every contribution by every small member in the family brings a huge difference in our relationships. These may seem like a mundane task but small mundane task end up being a big task. It may not seem romantic but yes marriage is definately not about the number of roses that one gives to the another. The reality about marriage is something that is not shown in any movies.
The reality about marriage is bonding at different stages in life. It is all about trusting each other and communicating with each other.
Gentlemen, no matter how expensive diamonds you give to your wives. They will appreciate these small moments and small tasks that you share with them. Yes, this lockdown has been tough on every one of us and we all need to find solution for the same. So let us begin with a simple solution to #ShareTheLoad, by #ShareTheLaundry
