This is one of the major current legal issue in India. The government had banned 59 Chinese apps in June last year referring to them as being “prejudicial” to India’s sovereignty, integrity and national security. The list included TikTok, Helo, We Chat, Alibaba’s UC Browser and UC News, Shein, Club Factory, Likee, Bigo Live, Kwai, Clash of Kings and Cam Scanner besides others. The Temporary block now has been made permanent.

The apps were blocked under section 69 A of the Information Technology Act and relevant provisions under IT rules 2009.

• With this move, an app called ‘Remove China Apps’ got introduced to the Play Store which turned into the fastest growing app in no time. While it did exactly what its name suggested, the app was later removed as it violated Google’s policies. But its mere existence hurt India’s best interests even though it was designed to help it. This goes to show that banning or eliminating a competitor is inherently bad for competition.
• The move of banning these apps is perceived as a mere signature move. Technology experts argue that these apps have already taken the data that they wanted.
• There are numerous Indian startups like Swiggy, Paytm, Zomato, BigBasket and Ola that have Chinese investors. Shutting Chinese apps will adversely affect these Indian startups. 
• Where we feel that the ban of Chinese apps would teach them a lesson, the Indian economy is likely to hurt a lot more than China’s economy would. And this is exactly opposite of what India was trying to accomplish in the first place – being self-reliant.
• It will add to already high tensions between India and China, increasing border tensions.
• The closure of local offices of these apps will add to high unemployment levels.
• The ban accounts as a violation of World Trade Organization guidelines of free trade. It sends a wrong message in terms of India’s openness to trade.
• As an impact of the ban on popular Chinese social media platforms, digital marketing budgets and consumer engagement strategies of brands will have to be replanned.
• Most of the startups were using these platforms to create massive reach, the ban would mean shelling more money on marketing budgets.

It takes huge amount of data which has nothing to do with services it provides. It takes several security-sensitive and intrusive permissions which the user doesn’t understand but ends up agreeing to. As the threat to secure user data is increasing, users must make sure their mobile phones are protected, secured and encrypted.

When you play games on your phone or other various sites, china can track those messages coming from, and that can harm to an individual and the nation as a whole.

This decision of the Chinese’s app ban in India is going to a boon for Indian App makers. A lot of apps in India are inspired by the deft engineering of Chinese apps. At the time when Chinese apps are banned in India, it is a chance for Indian apps to develop and modify themselves and capture the vacant space left by the Chinese apps in the Indian Market. The benefit will be, whatever profit will be gained will remain in the Indian market. Ultimately this will give support for a bounce-back of Indian Market.

Many analysts say this decision of the Indian Government is going to affect these Chinese apps badly as there are a large number of Indian users of these apps.

The coming time will however tell what impact the ban on Chinese apps in India is going to impose on the Indian Market and Indian People Lifestyle. Here what we can advise is now it’s time to initiate the moment, “vocal for local”.

All of it is being done for safeguarding the national security as there are chances of leakage of useful information to the spies of China, Pakistan, etc. So, it is a good decision taken so far to block these harmful apps.
