Music is my working partner. Whenever I am working I need a constant companion and that is Music. A good music can bring out the best in me and the Worst music can make me distracted for hours. Yes, just like others, I also do have my own set of playlist, which I do listen to, when I am writing especially. Even though I work from Home, I do have my own set of distractions. Sometimes, at the end of the day, when I attempt to write, I am so mentally drained that I am unable to even switch on the Laptop.
There are times, when I have a lot of things going on in my mind but I am unable to execute the same. It is during this time that this particular song motivates me the most.
The song that I am talking about is Believe In You by Rajakumari.
I had Seen an Episode of Son of Abish – a Chat Show hosted by Abish Mathew and broadcasted on his YouTube Channel, where Rajakumari and Divine were Guest. I immediately fell in love with her, just seeing the way she was so poised and so calmed down despite being a Grammy Award Winner. She had no airs. The first song that I had heard which was sung by Rajakumari was City Slums, which she had sung with Divine. In the same episode, Abish had mentioned that Meera by Rajakumari was his Favourite Song. I was not much into English Song or Hip Hop till then, but after this Interview, I went ahead and started following her songs. But one song, which touched my Soul was Believe in You. It was like the song was written especially for me. To motivate me in the worst of times.
The lyrics talk about Hope, How you are the only person, who can go ahead and chase your dreams. People will always try to bring you down because they can never be where you are today and that is the reason why they keep pulling you down. It is only you, who can move away the dark clouds of the unhappiness or problems in your life. It talks about how one day, you are going to be a trendsetter and the world is going to follow you. Today, every one may criticise you but tomorrow they are going to follow you only if you believe in yourself.
It tells you, you are the Greatest of all time. You have to be like a ship that sails even during the storms. Sometimes, you may feel like you are fighting a war, but you do need to live life one day at a time. Since last few years, that is what my mantra has been. To live life one day at a time.
The lyrics just give me the right amount of motivation, that I need before starting my work. I do not claim to be a perfect person, who can just get everything done, with the swipe of a wand. I am a normal human being who breaks down at regular interval and needs the right amount of push at the right time and RajaKumari Did it. Apart from that, I became more inclined to listen to her songs more after I read about her.
The Artist – Rajakumari
Rajakumari is an American Song Writer and an Artist with an Indian Origin. Her real name is Svetha Yallapragada Rao. She was nomiated for Grammy Awards in the year 2015, she has also received the BMI Pop Award for songwriting and featured in Bobby Friction, a programme on BBC Asian Network.
Being an Indian Woman, it is tough for us to make it big even in India Itself. Even though Rajakumari may not be an Indian Technically but her music has a lot of Indian Base. Having learnt Carnatic Music and South Indian Classical Dances, her lyrics and music always have an Indian Classical Base. Her songs, whether Mute, Meera, I did it, everything talks about a self made person.
The tragic part about her music or lyrics is that barely a hand ful of Indians know about her. When we talk about Indian Music and Music artist, we talk about those same old singers and musicians, who do nothing but remix the original Sound Tracks and just kill their soul once and for all. We are so obsessed with the fake and remixes, that we do not bother to encourage original talent who has been recognised internationally and yet barely a few Indians know about about her.
Here is the lyrics of the my favourite song:
VERSE 1
Hope is the magic that you feel
when you open up your soul
your dreams are now real
some people do the most to show
they feel some type of way they never seen original.
they grew up with the fake.
PRE
baby you a trend setter
they gonna follow you
i just understand better
cuz when i was you I told
all my friends that I know what to do
all i know is win, they said then whats the move.
HOOK
we are the body of light
that will inspire an entire lifeline
you are the key to the clouds that block the moon
as long as you believe in you
as long as you believe in you
VERSE 2
G.O.A.T. we’re the greatest of all time
were like a ship we stay afloat
even when rainstorms arise
feels like we’re fighting for the world
trying to take it one day at a time
while people worry about their clothes
im trynna make sure i feed mine
and minds you gotta know
PRE
baby you a trend setter
they gonna follow you
i just understand better
cuz when i was you
I told all my friends that
I know what to do
all i know is win,
they said then whats the move
HOOK
we are the body of light
that will inspire an entire lifeline
you are the key to the clouds
that block the moon
as long as you believe in you
as long as you believe in you
