BRAIN DRAIN.

BRAIN DRAIN” yeah this sounds kind of interesting as the name is rhyming and interesting but what it says is not that interesting. Brian drain is essentially the migration of talented geniuses and young minds from their homeland to the countries in search of better life, education and better job. When qualified minds of any particular country are attracted towards handsome salary, perks, better opportunities and a higher standard of living in other country they use all their knowledge and skills in serving and in a sense developing the country and leaving their homeland behind. It is a noteable fact that a large pool of doctors, engineers and other professionals in developed countries like USA and UK are Indians. Whereas it is quite a remarkable feat and something to be proud of but at the same time it forces us to think what these professionals would have achieved in their respective fields had they stayed back in India.
Brain drain occurs when people go out and settle abroad for their jobs. Brain drain can be a vital loss to a nation because it loses its share of knowledgeable people and the potent citizens who possess creativity and the skilled individual who depart for other countries to contribute their skills, achievement, talent to could have otherwise contributed significantly to the nation’s economic.

The only way to restrict brain drain is to provide better standard of living in the country itself, by providing quality education in schools and universities where the intelligent and competitive students doesn’t have to look for quality education in other countries, by increasing job opportunities with handsome salary, by investing much more on institutions, hospitals, new technologies and devices so that the young talent and minds can make use of that and thereby creating job opportunities. Improving the quality of our universities and bring them at par with universities in Europe and America. By removing the quota system and giving opportunities to the ones who actually deserve it on merit. With this reservation system the less, intelligent people are getting the opportunities where the talented people are remained behind the university gates to prove their talents.

We by now know how brain drain is a loss for the country’s economy but brain drain helps the individual more than the society as the individual develop financially. The individual gets open to number of opportunities, the individual gets more exposure to live a standard life. And in some ways it helps his own nation by applying the skills which he learned from the other countries. He can develop his own nation by using the skills he earned from the different nations. So, in this way brain drain can be a positive factor too in the development of any nation. Also, it helps as the income from the emigrated people comes back to the native country as overseas remittances. India is recipient of the highest amount of foreign currency in as remittances from NRI’s.
Brain drain is a negative factor for the nation but sometimes helps an individual or a society in a positive way. But need to think that is it worth for a nation to send our young and skilled doctors, engineers and other talent to migrate and serve other nations and contribute to the other nation’s economy only because we can’t provide the nation with quality education, opportunities and better standard of living.
