Career Planning

This article has been written by Mrs. Pretty Thomas, a former Pre- Primary School Teacher and a Home Maker.

Planning one’s career starts from almost our teenage years. We live in an era where it is very important for us to focus on our personal growth. As for myself I was fortunate enough to be put in one of the best in the city.We were exposed to the best available in the field of education.Grooming of our personalities starts, early on.Early childhood education has had a very crucial impact on me.The teachers focussed on every area related to us. Academics was not the only area of focus. We were corrected at all times for our basic etiquettes aswell.

But as the saying goes our family is our first school ,also where we learn our most crucial lessons.Since we spend most of our time in and with the family we are raised in. Though the lessons taught in the educational institute does lay the foundation for our future ,it stays irreleveant if not developed further. That happens only when our primary caretakers take an active interest to mould us.We are on our own by the time we reach middle school.Being surrounded by classmates who are well informed and focussed further helps us in deciding and guiding us to a certain extent. It is from my personal experience of being in good company and not so good one that I have been able to realise the difference.

My grades went up considerably while I was in the company of students who fared well at studies. Not only that it made me feel adequate but also had a sense of self worth as compared to being around girls who were below average.Another guiding factor in my life all throughout my growing up years was the external influence in terms of family friends, extended family and other such acquaintances.I grew up around.

There was one such family who were of much influence all through my life.Be it visits on every birthdays or our main festivals,I always looked upto them for guidance and support. Having kids who were several years elder to me ,was of great help and moral support, regarding almost every area of my life. Realising that the responsibility of our lives lies only with us ,came as soon as we are out of the school environment. It takes a lot of determination and focus to achieve the desired goals once we are on our own. There are distractions always to take us away from our goals. The role of our immediate family and friends play a very vital role, here. It is very much about my efforts and the results that I produce which will enable me to stand on my own.College being the deciding point of our lives, can make or break us if we were to comprimise on our daily schedules. Finally, the accomplishments we are able to achieve help us further decide on our future course thus making us fully capable to contributing to our families and societies we live in.Yes,all my counterparts have faired pretty well and are all accomplished in the fields they chose for themselves. As a mother I aspire my children to be in tune to what’s happening around them. With the changing times and all the modern technologies and social media available to them, they are certainly spoilt for choice.Inspite of having a lot of options at the click of a button ,it could be challenging or even confusing in terms of taking a course which might be the best for them. They would have to see what they are passionate about, aswell. As, when we do something we love we are able to put in all the more efort and yield results too.The present generation not only has a lot of choice but fierce competion aswell, since the children are so much more focussed and ambitious.Which gives them an edge over our times in terms of being succesful in their chosen path or area of interest. The basic ability of the child also plays a crucial role in determining his or her level of achievement.Experience does teach us many life lessons, that we learn to take much better informed decisions based on our past errors.
