- Socialist State- The term Socialist has not been defined in the Constitution of India. The term Socialist State is widely used to mean a state under the control of Government (Party that is organizing the organizing the economic, social and political affairs of the state. The word socialist was originally not present in the Preamble by the 42nd Amendment of the Constitution in the year 1976. Hence, the concept of Socialism has since been strengthened in India. But, it does not mean total exclusion of private enterprises and complete State ownership of material resources of the nation.
Democratic socialism aims to end poverty, ignorance, disease and inequality of opportunity. A socialistic concept of society should be implemented in the true spirit of the Constitution. The Court has laid importance on achieving social justice so as to attain substantial degree of social, economic and political equality. Because social justice and equality are complementary to each other
- Welfare State- Welfare of the people has always been kept in mind during the framing of the Constitution in the mid-20th century. When it is said that India is a welfare state, it is meant a State which renders social services to the people and promote general welfare of the citizens. The concept of Welfare State is further strengthened by the Directive Principles of State Policy which set out the economic, social and political goals of the Indian Constitution. The main is to maximize social welfare and basic social values such as education, employment, health etc.
- Secular State- The concept of Secularism was inserted in the Preamble by the 42nd Amendment of the Constitution in the year 1976. It is nowhere defined in the Constitution of India and even before the year 1976, the Concept of Secularism was very much embedded in the Indian Constitutional Jurisprudence.
The aim of having a secular state arose due to a compulsive need to maintain the integrity of the nation. Hence, it is said that there is no official religion in India. There is no state recognized Church or Religion. Several Fundamental Rights guarantee freedom of worship and religion and ensure that there is no kind of discrimination on the basis of religion. It can be said that the state doesn’t identify itself or favors any particular religion and it is correct to state that the state is enjoying treating all the religions equally.
The Constitution ensures equal freedom for all religions and provides that the religion of a particular individual has nothing to do with a socio-economic matter.
Each person irrespective of his religion must get an assurance from the state that he has the protection of law freely to profess, propagate and practice his religion and freedom of concise.
