With the growth of technology , a man’s life has become increasingly reliant on the internet. It is used in practically every field. However, it has aided the expansion of cybercrime, which is becoming more common by the day.

 Cybercrime is defined as an illegal conduct in which a computer is utilized as a tool, a target, or both. Cybercrime is a rapidly expanding sector of crime these days. As technology advances, people are becoming more reliant on the internet for all of their requirements, since it allows them to accomplish everything in one location, including shopping, gaming, online studying, social networking, and online jobs.

Different types of Cybercrime are:

• Cyber defamation, often known as cyber smearing, is defined as the deliberate infringement of “another person’s right to his good name.” Computers and/or the Internet are used to perpetrate cyber-defamation. Because of its speed, it is regarded as a greater threat.
• Stalking on the internet: ‘Stalkers benefit from the anonymity that the internet provides. He could be on the other side of the world, a next-door neighbor, or even a close cousin!’ It entails tracking a person’s online activities by posting (often threatening) remarks on bulletin boards frequented by the victim, entering chat rooms frequented by the victim, and persistently bombarding the victim with emails, among other things. The stalker’s goal is to create mental misery and has no genuine reason to do so.
• Cyberbullying is a type of harassment or bullying that occurs through the use of electronic or communication equipment such as a computer, cellphone, laptop, or other similar device.
• Child pornography: Child sexually abusive material (CSAM) is any material that contains a sexual image of a child who has been mistreated or exploited sexually.
• Grooming on the internet: When a person establishes an internet relationship with a young person, he or she tricks or forces him or her into doing sexual acts.

There are various sections present in IT act ,2000 ,Chapter XI which deals with offences including tampering with computer source material.

Section 65 deals with computer system hacking.

Section 66 deals with the electronic publication of obscene information.

“Whoever publishes or transmits or causes to be published or transmitted in the electronic form any content which is lascivious or appeals to the prurient interest or tends to deprave and corrupt persons shall be punished,” according to Section 67 of the IT Act.

Breach of confidence and privacy is dealt with under Section 70.

INFERENCE

Setting up multidimensional public-private collaborations with law enforcement agencies, the information technology industry, information security groups, internet corporations, and financial institutions can successfully combat cybercrime. Cyber-criminals do not compete for power or authority, in the same way they do in the physical world. Rather, they collaborate on activities to improve their abilities, and they may even be able to assist one another with new prospects. As a result, traditional crime-fighting methods are ineffective against cyber-criminals.

Some measures which can be taken to prevent cyber crimes are: to use strong password, always protect your storage data, keep changing your passwords frequently, keep your social media private, protecting the computer from security softwares etc.
