Avoiding distractions at all cost, is mandatory if you want to succeed in your life.
A lot of times, we are more overwhelmed by thinking about the future, than working towards the same. These are the thoughts that create distraction in our minds, which need to be avoided at all costs. Distraction does not necessarily mean a distraction by our family members. Distraction also includes distraction due to our own thoughts and other unnecessary wanderings.
One of the most common distractions, and an activity on which we end up wasting a lot of time is on our phones. Games, Social Media, Window Shopping are all the small ways in which we end up wasting our time. There was a time, when I could not concentrate on my work, so the first thing that I did was to delete all the games that I had in my mobile phone and deactivated my facebook account. Yes, it is important to network and stay connected with the world but if the same adds upto your distraction, it is absolutely ok to deactivate your acccount.
The other alternate way in which you can work around your distraction is to make a list of those things, that you love to do. It may be going through social media, chatting, using whatsapp, making a few mandatory phone calls. Then schedule a particular time to do these activities. I generally take my children downstairs at around 6.30 pm to our building garden. So their play time is when I return back my calls. Talk to people and do my online window shopping. Just identifying your distraction and working towards keeping them in check will help you a lot.
Sometimes, we all need a break and that is the time, when these distractions help. But at times, they takeover our work time and that is what one needs to avoid at all cost.
Along with allocating a special time. It is also important that we, do some Yoga or meditation. Yoga and Meditation or for that matter, even some sports, will help you in improving your concentration and avoid distractions. When you are returning back to your career after a long time, you will find it hard to concentrate on the task at hand. It is absolutely normal. Do not beat yourself down. Try and understand your mind, pamper your mind and empathise with your mind.
Tackling distraction can be tricky and can be handled only with experience. Remember it is a journey and not a destination.
