The future of democracy in India

After the end of second world war many countries of Asia and Africa achieved freedom from the shackles of Colonial rule. Most of these country adopted the democratic system of government but in many countries this experiment with democracy fail. The main cause of failure of democracy in this country was that the people did not possess experience to make it a success.

The Indian freedom struggle had, however not only overthrown Colonial rule but also had evolved a vision of what free India would be like this reason was that of democratic and secular Nation build on the foundation of independent self – reliant economic social equality and a politically awakened and active people.

Democracy in India has been relatively more successful as compared to many Asian and African countries which gained Independence almost of the same time as India did. The credit of this not only goes to our great leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel and others who led strong found decision of democracy in India but also to our people put out thick and thin have a affirmed faith in system through periodic elections.

Ever since India achieved freedom. When marked as a vibrant democracy. All the doubts were raised regarding to the soundness and suitability in this type of government in Indian conditions. Which are quite different from the condition prevailing in the western countries like UK and USA etc. we have better the prediction of our critics and maintained our democracy in spite of game pressure from which an outside the country and look at the Pakistan which has experienced military dictatorship for 26 year out of its 54 existence.

There is no reason why democracy should not succeed in India. India is land of diversity a long process of history has made India gigantic motherland of many races is linguistic group and religious communities which exhibit a fascinating mosaic of racial and cultural intermingling and coexistence of varied belief patterns.

There has been a debate on whether India should continue with the present parliamentary democracy or switch over to the presidential form of Government if all political party agree than the letter from the government may be adopted. The future of democracy, however depend on our ability to preserve its roots and strengthen the system through constant effort. Despite of optimism expressed by political pundits there are several problems that threaten democratic Fabric in our country.

The challenges of casteism Communism and religious fundamentalism involving separation and violence are dangerous threat to our democracy. Intercommunal and inter- caste tension and violence over the ear have disturb National peace and stability. In recent years there have been recurrent and increasing number of communal riots cast carnages and language animosities. This must stop if India has to maintain its democracy. Political party must restrained from wiping up communal passions for pretty electoral gains. If a teams are made to disturb the social fabric and the divide the country on the basis of caste and religion then the future of democracy in India is able to a socio-economic just has to emerge as a strong democracy in the true sense of the term . Judicial reforms are needed to speed the justice . Government must be made more responsible to the people inside genuine democratic system can only emerge as a consequence of a through socio-economic and political transformations which remains major undiminished task of our times and great challenges for the future. The future of indian democracy will depend on how we meet the challenges.
