Digitalization In India

Digitalization is an important aspect of a developing nation. Digitalization is a powerful tool which should be used towards making every day activities easier and more convenient.

Digital age means, the present time in which many things are done by computer and large amounts of information are available because if computer technology.

‘Digitization’ and ‘digitalization’ are two conceptual terms that are closely associated and often used interchangeably in a broad range of literatures. Digitization refers to “the action or process of digitizing; the conversion of analogue data (esp. in later use images, video, and text) into digital form.” Digitalization, by contrast, refers to “the adoption or increase in use of digital or computer technology by an organization, industry, country, etc.” “Digitalization includes Digitization” “Digitization is the first step to realise digitalization”

Digitalization has an increasing impact on the economy and quality of life as countries advance through the stages of digitalization, and more impact on access to basic services and education in countries that are just beginning their journey.

In order to implement digitalization, it is important to have digital infrastructure in place. This is a task when it comes to rural areas. Especially in countries like India is very important to connect rural areas as well so that India can achieve overall digitalization.

The “Digital India” campaign was launched by the government of India to uplift the usage of technology in India. The objective was to make the Government services easily available to the citizens electronically by improving its online infrastructure all over the country. The process would be structured to increase internet connectivity to make the country digitally empowered. It helps to reach out to the masses and encourage them to use technology in their daily lives. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi launched the campaign on July 1, 2015. The initiative aims at connecting rural India with the help of high-speed internet connectivity.

Digital literacy is essential. There is no point in having digital infrastructure and digital facilities if the people are not able to use these facilities. Efforts need to be made by the citizens as well as the government to increase digital literacy in both urban and rural areas. It is also important that the citizens of the country are equipped with devices that facilitate digitalization. Devices like smart phones, computers and laptops should be easily available at affordable prices.

With the Digital India Programme, the Government of India is hoping to achieve an all-round growth on multiple fronts collectively. The objective of the Government is to target the nine ‘Pillars of Digital India’ that are identified as follows.

1.      Broadband Highways

2.      Universal Access to Mobile Connectivity

3.      Public Interest Access Programme

4.      E-Governance

5.      E-Kranti

6.      Global Information

7.      Electronics Manufacturing

8.      Training in Information Technology for Jobs

9.      Early Harvest Programmes

Digitalization needs to spread across all sectors. Education institutions, small and big businesses, health care, service sector, transport, food sector etc.,

To help embrace digitalization systematically, we have defined a framework for achieving efficient as well as profitable digitalization. The proposed framework comprises three steps: Step1) Create awareness and ownership around digitalization: Help people understand what digitalization is and what advantages it offers, and foster a sense of ownership around digitalization at the highest level.

Step2) Design a digitalization roadmap: Putting citizens at the center of the roadmap, design a digital business value tree and a digital operating model mapping the technology and skills required to harness the true power of digital assets.

Step3) Digitalize business model: Make the right choices about citizens value proposition, resources, profit formula and performance metrics and nurture the capabilities and culture needed to support digitalization.
