discipline in politics

The term “discipline” is more than just a word. It is one of the fundamental and core pillars supporting a society. Discipline is a universal requirement, ranging from schools to offices, house to outside, etc., of course, politics alone should not bereft of it. But, alas, the manipulator of society, politics, today’s, in itself shunning morals of discipline. Today here and there, how and then, we can hear news of atrocities or misbehavior or corruption in every nook and corner of politics, the political leaders these days leave no stones upturned to satisfy the hunger for power and strength. They attach themselves to activities harmful for society. Moreover, politician these days are very intolerable.

They take no consideration in badmouthing other politicians, terming it as verbal “payback” all this malice has been seeping into the society through them, making the people provoked and hence, explosive to the peace. The members of parliament and legislative assembly take their posts more as a privilege than honor. They think the membership is a ticket to earning huge profits, of course, there are many loyal and law-abiding government officials between these allegations, but they are very often, silenced or “shushed”. Political parties, these days, to retain their reign of terror; retort to malicious activities during elections. These include bribing, booth-capturing, hiring of hoodlums, vote banking etc. the honest parties get left behind in the competition. All this creates a bad after taste, and disbelief in politics.

This will, in a long run, create a negative situation, that is, decline in the voter’s turnout, and then, it will be a moment of chaos as the democracy to choose our leaders will not be touched!! There will be governing factor in who rules us. Also, the corrupt officials will hollow out the system of politics over and over, with no end in sight. In many political systems, a member of each party is officially designated or elected as a “whip”, whose role is to enforce party discipline. There are occasions in which members of party are granted a conscience vote or free vote, in which party discipline is waived.

Party discipline tends to be strong in countries  using the west minister system, such as the united kingdom, Canada, Australia, new Zealand and India, in which a vote by the legislature against the government is understood, by convention, to cause the government to “collapse”. Thus, it is rare for members to vote against the wishes of their party. Party leaders in such governments often have the authority to expel members of the party who violate the party line. Canadian MP’s also face intense pressure to toe the line when making public remarks inside and outside the legislature

Hence as citizens and concerned citizens we and only we have to work to stop all this. We have to yearn for a system that in corruption less and needs to our needs, we have to make it sure that this system works for us and not we for it. And mind it all of it through discipline! No riots! No violence! Just peaceful, reasonable, negotiable declarations and agenda
