People have like great fascination with dogs and cats as their pets and to the limit of obsession. Well these pets are just adorable and make our hearts go, all awwww, you little squishy cuties. Well ignore my overdramatic squeal with just a thought of these cute fur balls. But the question is why the war between if we are a cat person or a dog person. And then now it has become one of those criteria to establish any sort of relationship among us.
To say in general cats as pets are more easy to maintain than dogs, they are just like bringing a baby into the house, that requires attention, care, affection and love. And if not given they tend to become depressed and sad and sulky. But cats are just queen, them showing love is the ultimate level of being loved. To say cats need another company mostly because they are likely to become aggressive or rebellious, whereas for dogs, they are called man’s best friend a reason.
But now we humans are cruel. We don’t respect people or animals and then try fighting for our own rights. We are just hypocrites. In these two years, I think people are losing their brain cells in large quantity. Seeing people harming their pets, even beating them to death is just traumatizing. And then posting videos and sharing it like it’s some trophy or some achievement is just sad. People record it, see it happening but doesn’t even try to stop it or do something about it and these videos just circulate and it’s depressing to watch. From killing people in cold blood to killing animals, it has become an disheartening issue.
These pets expect our love and care in return they support us, be there until they die. But here people are just killing or chopping off some limbs just to let out some frustration and anger or satisfy their own insecurities, which is just alarming.
There are laws to help us but how many people do actually know it. Cats further doesn’t suffer much but dogs on the other hand are actually suffering is bad housing or cruelty.
• Section 428 of the Indian Penal Code,1860 states that, whoever commits mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming, or rendering useless any animal or animals, of the price of ten rupees or upwards, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which can reach two years, or with fine, or with both.
• Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 states that, whoever commits mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming or rendering useless, any elephant, camel, horse, mule, buffalo, bull, cow or ox, whatever could also be the worth thereof, or the other animal of the worth of fifty rupees or upwards, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a team which can reach five years, or with fine, or with both.
• Under the Constitution of India, animal rights are overall protected. Article 51A (G) makes it a fundamental duty to guard wildlife and have sympathy for all living organisms.
• The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 (hereinafter indicated to as the PCA Act) is recognized to be the most comprehensive law in India. Restriction of the punishment of undesirable pain or suffering on an animal was the main objective of the enactment of this Act.
• As per Indian law, the stray dogs cannot be beaten or driven away or dumped elsewhere or killed. They can only be sterilized in the manner envisaged in the Animal Birth Control (Dog) Rules, 2001, vaccinated, and then returned into the same locality/ territory.
• Dogs being territorial in nature, tend to fight off other dogs, and keep them away from entering their territories; and in this manner, the dog population within each locale/ territory stabilizes.
• There is no law that prohibits the feeding of street animals. Citizens who do so are in fact performing duty cast upon them by the Constitution of India – of showing compassion to all living creatures. Courts have upheld the street dog feeding since it reduces human-animal conflict, suspicion and facilitates animal birth control (by making dog catching easier).
• Any kind of cruelty on dogs, under Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and Sections 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code, is an offense and punishable with imprisonment and fine.
• Any attempt to interfere with or harass people who choose to look after and feed community dogs is an offense of criminal intimidation.
• Any aggression or hostility that the dogs may be subjected to, may render them aggressive, and hostile to humans. They may then resort to snapping and biting in the self-defense. If the same happens, human aggressors shall be the only ones to blame.
We humans have already ruined mother nature in various ways. It’s an humble request to everyone please remember these guidelines and help these poor animals.
