Enhancing Legal Practice with Technology

Since the emergence of covid19, everyone has become reliant on technology, even those whose jobs do not need it. Technology is used in schools, colleges, big companies, and even court sessions. Technology has become an integral component of our daily life. Technology has not only been applied to online schools and businesses, but also to law offices, making their work easier. In a variety of ways, technology is assisting legal practitioners. Legal technology plays a critical role in bridging the gap between legal practitioners and the general public. This provides lawyers with a comprehensive picture of what people or their clients are going through these days and allows them to come up with suitable answers.

Technology can provide more accurate and higher-quality work in less time, resulting in increased revenue for corporations or companies who have a large number of cases to manage. Lawyers can also take benefit from technology while creating contracts by utilising various tools and software that are already available and are being improved as technology advances.

After the outbreak of covid19 court hearing have shifted to virtual court. Virtual court is a conception that aims to eliminate the need for litigants or lawyers to appear in court by allowing cases to be adjudicated online. A virtual court is a site with a well-developed technical infrastructure where legal cases are decided in the presence of experienced judges. More than four crores of cases are pending in the court of India and with the help of technology a lot of pending cases can be covered through virtual court. A virtual hearing has the obvious benefit of ensuring that hearings can take place even when there is a pandemic. Delaying proceedings is frequently not an option for parties who, above all, want to resolve their disagreement as soon as possible. Depending on the conditions, parties will be able to have their day in court if they prepare virtually, or in person or hybrid. Virtual hearing has another clear benefit of the significant cost savings that come with eliminating or considerably reducing the requirement for lawyers and clients to travel.

Legal teams that are separated by geographical borders can use technology to collaborate and operate in a classified online workspace prior to a court appearance. By digitising and centralising evidence and pleadings, lawyers may quickly organise and mark up papers, discuss legal strategy, and sketch out arguments. In addition, lawyers may quickly converse and share information in actual time. It also enhances productivity and security by eliminating the requirement for team members to email, post, or courier vital documents back and forth.

Technology is less time consuming in comparison to human beings and it is more efficient. The chances of making mistakes also reduces because it enhances accuracy and transparency. There is various software which is available for the law firms and lawyers which makes their work easy and less hectic. There is software which is used for the collection of data and it is also very useful for storing, organizing and even sharing confidential files.

Technology eases the work of legal research. There are various legal research tools available for the lawyers which can help them to stay up to date on any changes in the regulations even when they are not at their desk. Senior lawyers usually used to hire junior attorneys to do the jobs of collecting, storing and processing titles or to update them their daily schedule of work. But now legal title management and calendaring software can handle all the work related to titles and can also give lawyers overview of what they have to do on a specific day. It allows lawyers to make better and more effective use of the resources.

We are all aware that these technologies pose a security risk and can be used for a variety of bad things or even crimes, but technology is here to stay and has uncontrollably become a part of the system in practise. Therefore, it is best to adopt the recommended aspects to equip in accordance with the demands to meet the economic, social and legal expectations to remain and grow.
