INTRODUCTION
The present scenario and historical background of feminism which ranges social & political movements is concerned with gender inequalities and equal rights for women. The basic meaning of feminism would be an aim to justify equality between gender and protection of women against domestic violence, abuse, rape, molestation & other crimes which take place in the names of culture, rituals & traditions. In other words, no individual to be discriminated on the basis of their gender. Feminism has brought to the fore, change in social, political or cultural order to maintain harmony in the society to overcome such discrimination. The modern era has seen more participation of women in different sphere of work. More women are in indulged in profession such as business, trade, political, fashion, doctors, advocate, etc. Women needs more powerful laws and protection to enhance further and prosper nationwide providing a stake in building nation.
Women’s movement seldom took place in era before independence, the term feminist is a modern one. But off lately, there is a new term of feminism called Pseudo-feminist. What is Pseudo-Feminism? The term means when an individual wants only a particular gender to be treated with respect and provide all the benefits pertaining to it without considering the other gender. This denounces feminism, particular reason for the circumstance is unequal treatment to gender and excessive single gender propaganda.
Feminism is about giving equal chance and opportunity as men in all fields of work whether social, political or cultural. It is not about extra rights but rather an equal opportunity to be heard and acknowledged. This actively demonstrates that females be given an equal chance to stand out in their field of work.
FEMINIST vs PSEUDO-FEMINIST
Women have always been deprived of opportunities to be given in a male dominant society. Deprived from rights pertaining to education, work, social activity, commence business, etc. Many reformers brought in movement of reforms, to change the ideology of the society from women’s perspective of giving equal opportunity and acknowledgement for her work. Feminist in simple term does not imply domination of man; it demonstrates that a proper protection & guidance should be provided to the individual which finds any obstruction while pursuing his part of work irrespective of his gender. Recent events have made us come across Pseudo-feminist mentality which is a factor for uneven treatment to male and misuse of the power to the advantage of women. Pseudo-feminism has inflicted a violence and disfiguring injury which has created a sort of hate amongst men for feminism. The thoughts of Pseudo- feminist are biased as it does not fully conceptualize the feminism. They create their own point of feminism which renders an environment of more negate, ineffectiveness, refusal, bias, disagreement of thoughts of men and women.
CASE STUDY
A video which is quite viral on social media about a woman getting into fight with a cab driver and slapping the driver more than 20 times. The incident took place in Lucknow, where a women came in front of the vehicle. The driver applied the brakes immediately but the women came across the car and started pushing against the car. The woman has put an allegation against the driver that he was trying to run over her and allegedly started damaging the vehicle and smashed his phone. An FIR has been lodged against this woman for assaulting the cab driver after the CCTV footage went viral on social media. The woman was charged on the section 394, 427 of The Indian Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt & damage. Such incidents of people acting Pseudo-feminist has not only raised questions over the quality of being what feminism actually is but also difficulty being believed by the society.
CONCLUSION
If women want to compete then she can surely compete, equal opportunity should be given to both genders, we can’t ask for better treatment and then later complaint that the playing field isn’t levelled. Being as strong and capable to do something has nothing to do with the gender. World is a hard place for women and the change is necessary but not by detreating men. Pseudo-feminist is more about women supremacy and not equality, creating a lopsided society which is totally for women and women as superior. There has been lot of hard work by many social reformers over the past years to empower women and give their equal right. And this hard work should not turn out to be vague.
