FOUNDATION FOR REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES INDIA: AN INTERVIEW

HOW DID I INTERVIEW THIS PERSON? : Due to the pandemic, the interview was online. Everything posted here is with due permission from the organization. The main objective was to find out an organization that works for the Reproductive Health.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Foundation for Reproductive Health Services India is a leading Indian Non-Governmental Organization working since 2009 to enable women and girls to exercise their reproductive rights and choice. In 2015, they emerged as India’s No. 1 provider of clinical family planning services in the NGO and the private sector. FRHS India is an affiliate of MSI Reproductive Choices, a global organization that provides contraception and safe abortion services through multiple channels – own clinics, clinical outreach teams, and providing public sector support to Government family planning services. Through public-private partnerships with the state governments of Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, And Uttar Pradesh, they work towards improvement in accessibility and availability of quality family planning services in the states. MISSIONS/GOALS OF THE ORGANIZATION:

Children By Choice, Not Chance . At FRHS India, they work towards a world in which every birth is wanted. They believe that women should have the right to choose whether, when, and how many children to have. Their role is to empower individuals and families to make healthy choices through improved access to information and high-quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health services. In advancing their mission, they work hard to increase the reach of their quality family planning and reproductive health services.

THE WORK THAT THE ORGANIZATION FOCUSES ON THE MOST:

Sexual and reproductive health and services and rights- contraception choices in the public sector, safe abortion services, counseling, and advocacy. At FRHS India, clients are at the center of what they do. They work by prioritizing client-centeredness. To enable their clients to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights and choice, our program implementation is two-pronged: Service delivery and Advocacy.

HOW DOES THE ORGANIZATION CARRY OUT THE WORK? :

“We believe that every woman has the right to choose when and how many children she has. To enable women to exercise this choice and take care of their own and their family’s wellbeing, we provide a range of contraceptive choices and comprehensive abortion care at our clinics and through our outreach teams. In addition, we work with selected public sector sites to improve the quality of family planning services delivered by them.”

IMPACT OF THE ORGANIZATION:

Their efforts have transformed the communities in which they work, by providing solutions to couples who have limited means of preventing an unwanted pregnancy. They offer a complete basket of choices on reproductive health services to women and men, enabling them to make informed choices on when and how many children they want/have. Between 2013-2020, they delivered family planning services to 9,74,863 clients averting 1,499 maternal deaths and achieving greater health impact than ever before.

PERSONAL VIEWS OF THE INTERVIEWEE:

“We can not compromise on gender rights with a focus on women’s empowerment to bodily autonomy, and this in our organization is happening through inclusion, leaving no one behind, and making sure that laws and policies are in sync with our advocacy asks.

Aishwarya Says:

I have always been against Glorifying Over Work and therefore, in the year 2021, I have decided to launch this campaign “Balancing Life”and talk about this wrong practice, that we have been following since last few years. I will be talking to and interviewing around 1 lakh people in the coming 2021 and publish their interview regarding their opinion on glamourising Over Work.
