Gratitude and Purpose

Given a chance, none of us would hesitate to write down a list of problems we have in our lives. Someone like me would find it easy to list things I’m not happy with in my life. I can make a list of things that didn’t go my way, things that haven’t yet happened to me. People away from me, people lost who were close to me, all such things might appear .

But sometimes I find it difficult to show gratitude. Like most people, I find it difficult to write down at least 5 things that I’m grateful about. It is extremely saddening that such can be the state of a human mind. Gratitude is like moisture to a soil, essential for sustainable growth of a plant. Life’s satisfaction is that plant.

If one wants to be happy in life, we must make peace with whatever we have with us. But expectations take a toll on the balance of gratitude and complains. The turmoil of a mind to understand the whirlwind it is in , and to respond to it maturely is a rarity. At times, we get lost in jealousy and comparison and commit mistakes that we later regret. Even feeling jealous towards someone but not saying anything out loud feels like a crime.

It is detrimental to one’s own mental health and quality of life. But it’s so hard to be content for someone who wants everything in life. Of course such people rise high in life because of their never dying spirit and ambition. But the quality of life lost while struggling for more is not much worth the effort.

At times one feels hopeless while comparing life to peers’. But that’s something that makes me vulnerable in my weak moments. I want to learn to be content with whatever I have. With whatever efforts I’m making. That is my ultimate goal, to be happy on my own self rather than having a comparative outlook.

Gratitude in life gives the human body a purpose to work for. To keep going ahead for a purpose even when the circumstances are vague and gloomy. Because gratitude tells us that no matter what, you have things, people, situations at all times to be grateful for.

I have always been against Glorifying Over Work and therefore, in the year 2021, I have decided to launch this campaign “Balancing Life”and talk about this wrong practice, that we have been following since last few years. I will be talking to and interviewing around 1 lakh people in the coming 2021 and publish their interview regarding their opinion on glamourising Over Work.
