GUIDE OF OUR LIFE : THE GURU

On the occasion of Guru Purnima i m writing my views on the importance of guru’s in making our life full of colours and beauty of joy.

I am stating a line regarding this :- GururBrahma GururVishnu GururDevo Maheshwaraha Guru Saakshaat ParaBrahma Tasmai Sri Gurave Namaha

This line literally depict the importance of guru in one’s life.

Guru is everyone’s ultimate destiny .

The importance of guru is that we want to flower , we are buds and not satisfied with that only , though we don’t know what is the flowering but deep down there is a search and discontentment within , that’s why nothing satisfies us , whatever the name , fame , money or power we have but till there’s a missing , what’s that missing ! This missing creates the spiritual journey which takes us to guru , if we dare to surrender then guru is really infectious , guru is in full flowering state , in the presence of guru our bud becomes the flower .

What are the importance of a guru in one’s life? If you haven’t got a guru in your life, then how would your life be?
Meaning of the term ‘Guru’.

The syllable ‘Gu’ denotes darkness or ignorance; the syllable ‘Ru’ stands for the repeller of the darkness.

Actually, the place Gurudeva occupies in a disciple’s mind changes with time, rising from a superlative human guide to a direct manifestation of God Himself. Many are not so fortunate as to hear of the importance of a Guru, some do but are thoroughly misinformed, exceedingly few are those who can find a Guru in a bona fide lineage. An authentic Guru. We learn these things slowly, simply because a wide gulf separates the real spiritual phenomenon at work from our worldly existence.

The types of Gurus: Gurus are of many types; Kularnava Tantra describes the following types:

  1. Preranaa-dayak Guru, he who inspires
  2. Suchanaa- pradaata Guru, he who gives valuable hints and warnings
  3. Vaachak Guru, he who explains in words the scriptural philosophy and principles
  4. Darshak Guru, he who throws light on matters of significance and guides
  5. Shiksha daataa Guru, he who teaches you, as in a school or secular place
  6. Bodhak or jnana daataa Guru, he who imparts divine knowledge

The first five are karyabhoot incidental in works inspired, but the sixth one, bodhak, dispels the darkness of ignorance directly by giving diksha and transferring his spiritual energy to the disciple, such a one alone is to be called Satguru, his sandals/ padukas are worthy of being worshipped.

He is the bodhak Guru who once having taken refuge in must never be rejected.

The first five types of gurus are worthy of respect and must accordingly be revered, but they cannot ‘self-start’ you as I call it, they can only point directions. The bodhak Guru, on the other hand, is all encompassing, he can and does everything.

Among the bodhak or jnana data gurus are some like Ramakrishna Paramhamsa, Anandamayi Ma, Yogananada Paramahamsa, Swami Muktananda, Sri Sitaramdas Omkarnath who are called siddha gurus. They can pass on anything to us. Whole world of knowledge lies sterile in front of us, it’s there yet it’s not there. Everything comes into being afresh after the grace of Gurudeva descends.

Life without a Guru:

The word Anaatha in Sanskrit originally did not mean an orphan or a child without parents. It meant A + Naath, one who has no Lord, no Guru.

MEANING

Without the Guru no one obtains spiritual knowledge or achieves salvation.

Without the Guru no one can see Truth or have his doubts removed.

How a doctor is important for a patient to cure his physical difficulties, a Guru or spiritual leader is essential for any seeker to quench his or her spiritual thirst . Guru strengthen the spiritual self of a person to lead a pleasant and compassionate life. But the importance of a Guru need not be realized by every person in their life unless and until they recognize the spiritual vacuum in them. When knowledge exceed in a person beyond certain boundaries he or she become restless of some ‘Void’ in their life which should not be satisfied by material objects or by intellectual enhancement. That feeling of void can only be filled by spiritual up lift. It shows that the person surpass the boundaries of material, intellectual and stand near to the entrance of spirituality. What Goutham Budha experienced, what Swami Vivekananda experienced, what all other spiritual leaders experienced before their journey towards the core of spirituality. In that juncture the presence of a Guru is inevitable to pour the elixir of wisdom to each person by knowing their potential. With out breaking the vessel, a Guru mold each person with utmost craftsmanship. The treatment of Guru to each disciple is different to bring the best out of him.

The well known book “Disciples of Sri Ramakrishna” narrates the way how Sri Rama Krishna parama hamsar treat his disciples to bloom them to self sufficient seekers of truth. Depends upon a disciples education, intellectual ability, mental capacity, endurance and devotion ,treatment of a Guru differs considerably. How mother direct a kid towards God, how father guide a child towards God, Guru is the last destination of any one to realize God(Matha,Pitha,Guru,Deva). In exceptional cases some of the divine souls reach to their destination with out the help of a Guru, and only by self learning. But self learning is time consuming and misleading. Majority of Spiritual seekers find out an appropriate Guru to fasten their spiritual progress.

Guru has good support to my spiritual journey. When ever I need clarification about any aspects related to spirituality I approach Guru with an empty mind.Guru always bridge me with God.

The perspective of life has shifted in my experience after having a Guru.
