Hide your bra-straps, it’s showing.
Whenever I hear this statement, from my family, friends, random females, etc., all I think about is “why?”. It’s just another piece of clothing. Men’s are comfortable enough to show their underwear brand straps, which are actually meant to show, but females are said to hide.
Why? Why? Why?
The societal blame for crimes against women, because of their clothes has been happening since years and ages ago. Women are said to hide, show less skin, wear proper clothes and these all judgey looks everywhere is just sometimes disheartening.
Sometimes travelling wearing your favorite clothes, then one comment, one stare, one look, is capable of spoiling your perfect happy mood. Not to be gender biased but sexual crimes doesn’t happen due to clothes, it wholly dependent on the person responsible.
The straps, the bra lines, the off-shoulder top, etc. everything is just enough to turn heads, but why, what’s there to stare at?
Yes I agree, being presentable is important, dressing according to situation, occasion, place is important but sometimes all these comments, to hide reality, it’s enough to show the mentality if society.
Once, my younger cousin who’s just in standard 7, told me to hide my straps, and I was like confused to taught her this, and thus this shows, how children learn things which are irrelevant and just unnecessary.
When you Google “hide your bra straps” all you will find is ways to hide it but no articles on it, about it. Society says us to hide it but people bras are expensive and so what’s the problem in showing, it’s mostly unintentional, but still. If the women is comfortable in her own body and feeling herself, confident, intelligent, hardworking, beautiful inside out, this normal comment of ours can spoil her mood to a frustrated irritated one.
Change starts with changes within ourselves. So let’s somehow improve our own self and the hence a safe and healthy society for years to come.
