“To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.” – Nelson Mandela
Human rights are basically rights which are meant for every individual. In this world where there is discrimination of various kinds spread all over the world, the existence of human right is very important to ensure the equality. It is important for the happiness and prosperity of people. But now days, these right are being violated extremely both in India and outside India. The Human rights day is coming. This day marked the inalienable rights given to all equally regardless of their race caste color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
History:-
10 December is selected as Human Rights day to honor the adoption and proclamation of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by United Nation on 10 December 1948. Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a document providing for some basic rights which everyone is entitled being a human and that too equally. The importance of this document can be estimated by the fact that it is the most translated document in the world and is available in more than 500 languages. This day was officially recognised in the year 1950, when the UN invited all states and concerned organization to adopt this day as Human rights day.
This day is so famous that stamp of commemorative Human Rights Day issued by UN in 1952 received advance orders for approximately 200000 stamps. With the motive of increasing awareness and recognizing people’s efforts in this field, two awards are presented regularly i.e., 5 yearly United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights and Nobel peace prize every year. To commemorate this day many other events on both national and international levels are organised.
Although, in most of the countries the date is 10 December but there is some exception like in South Africa, it is celebrated on 21 March, in remembrance of the Sharpeville massacre which took place on 21 March 1960. Human Rights are one of the important parts of Sustainable Development Goals and vice versa are also true. Without securing dignity of Humans, it is not possible to achieve even single sustainacle development goals.
