INDIAN FESTIVALS

India is a secular country with diverse cultures, religions, customs and tradition. This diversity enable us to celebrate a number of festivals throughout the year. Festivals are a reason to celebrate joy, happiness, success and victory. They also gives everyone the reason to gather with their family and enjoy every moment of this beautiful life.

TYPES OF FESTIVALS

India is a very diverse county in terms of culture and tradition. So it has numerous festivals celebrated throughout the year. The festivals are divided in three broad categories. They are

* National Festivals – National festivals includes Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti. These festivals are celebrated all over the country by each and every citizens irrespective of their caste, gender, religion, creed etc. National festivals are celebrated with great patriotism and enthusiasm. These festivals calls for a holiday all over the country.

* Religious Festivals – Religious festivals are very famous not only in India but throughout the world. Some of the most prominent religious festivals are

° Holi – Holi is one of the prominent festival in Hindu religion. It is known as festival of colours. It is celebrated with great joy and is enjoyed by each and every individual.

°Diwali – Diwali is another prominent Hindu festival. It is known as festivals of light. It marks the victory of good over evil. The entire country gets glorified on the occasion of Diwali.

° Eid – Eid is an Islamic festival celebrated at the end of Ramadan. Eid is all about fun and enjoyment . One of the most auspicious dish during Eid is sewaiyan. This is a reason of joy, happiness and gathering of everyone.

° Christmas – Christmas is celebrated every year on 25th

December to mark the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a Christian festival in which Santa Claus is prominent for distributing gifts among kids. Everyone enjoy this with happiness and a variety of delicious food.

  • Seasonal Festivals – These festivals are celebrated in different states at different times to mark a good harvest. For example, Bihu is celebrated in Asom, pongal in Tamil Nadu, Basant Panchami all over North India and Bihar.

IMPORTANT OF FESTIVALS

 Festivals allow us to forget our cultural and religious differences. We all come together for the sole purpose of celebrating happiness and joy. Festivals also helps us to embrace our culture and tradition.

Festivals fills our lives with joy and enthusiasm. We eliminate all the communal hatred surrounding us. Therefore festivals are very important and are celebrated with great passion and love all over the country.
