Reality behind the biggest brand battle

Recently, I had been to the launch of the news Johnson’s products. Johnson’s products are something that we had been using for generations in our house. Though personally, I have had no complains against the brand, but as I came across a lot of articles and post across all the social media sites about the negative image about Johnson’s, I was curious to know more about the brand. What best than this launch event to know about it.

Being a lawyer, I was quite curious to know more about their legal battle in the US. As you know, we always listen half, understand quarter and tell the next person barely 10%. Yes, I had sufficiently read about the brand, and was satisfied with the information that I had acquired on the internet. Hereunder are a few aspects about the Johnson’s legal battle, that I came to know more the other day:

1.      The case is sub-judiced, which means that the case is still pending its final hearing; we cannot pass our judgments or derive out of any conclusion in case of a sub-judice matter.

2.      The judgement, that was then passed, was passed by a Privy Court and not by a judge;

3.      And according to the National Cancer Institute, America claims that talc used for feminine hygiene purposes can be absorbed by the reproductive system and cause inflammation in the ovaries are not supported by “the weight of evidence.”

Considering other aspects to the case,

1.      Appeal to the following judgment is still pending;

2.      There is no official ban on the product, even in the United States or any country across the world;

3.      A Judgment that is passed in the United States, can only be used as reference and cannot become law in India;

4.      I found it strange that even in a country like the United States, which is also a Super Power, it ordered compensation in Millions of Dollars on the basis of doubt at a primary level to a group of women.

The debate is about asbestos being found in the talc, which is a natural ingredient of talc. While making baby products, it is ensured that the amount of asbestos available in the natural talc is reduced. Similarly, there are a lot of products that we consume daily but are harmful otherwise for example apples have paraben, the fruits and vegetables that we consume, have number of harmful chemicals and pesticides.

If we look into details of each ingredient that we consume externally and internally, their composition differs, and it is in this composition, that it affects our body.

With the vast knowledge and information imparted, I was quite amused and convinced about how Johnson’s image might have been tarnished without any substantial facts or figures.

As they say, change is the only thing that is constant, the new Johnson’s has changed with time. Their products are now transparent, easy to handle for mothers and children and better in their quality. It is just as gentle and as pure as a mother’s love. Just because a product changes does not mean the previous version was bad. You just need to revamp yourself with time. I mean you cannot still hang on with the audio casettes, which were cool during our school time. Just as we have moved on from audio cassettes to the cloud. Johnson’s has moved on to Paraben free, Sulphate Free and Dye Free products. Looking forward to see those soon in the market.
