Marriage is one of the most important systems which keep the continuation of the social unity through marriage between a man and a woman, who agree together to build a family. Getting married is a very important decision in every individual’s life because they are planning to spend their entire life with their spouses. Sometimes people get married at an early age and experience problems in their relationship.
Young people need to do a number of things before they make the decision to settle in marriage. First, they must know and understand themselves well before they make this decision because they cannot select a partner for marriage unless they understand themselves. To do this, young people should be able to identify themselves precisely.
Problems arising out of early marriages
• UNWANTED PREGNENCIES: one of the prominent problems arises out of early marriage is unwanted pregnancy. If a girl child gets married before the age of eighteen the risk of unwanted pregnancy increases. There is a lack of planned pregnancy. The girl child gets pregnant even if she didn’t want to. According the report of World Health Organisation at least 10 million unwanted or unintended pregnancies occur each year among adolescent girls aged between 15-19 years in the developing world
• EDUCATION AND ECONOMY: education is the most important and basic requirement of this sustainable world. early marriage also leads to hamper this. little or no focus is given to their education, because they are married early, going grossly against the aphorism, “educate a woman and you will educate a family, educate a family and you will educate a nation”. Back out the young/future generation from schools eternize the cycle of poverty and thereby, retrench the growth of the nation
• INFANT MORTALITY: infant mortality rate (IMR) is the number of death of infants under one year of age per 1000 live births. Infant mortality is also a problem of early marriage. Infant mortality and death of young children is significantly higher in children to born to mother who are married at an early age according to a report of NCBI.
• HEALTH RISKS: Early pregnancies among adolescents have major health consequences for adolescent mothers and their babies. Pregnancy and childbirth complications are the major cause of death among girls aged 15–19 years globally, with low- and middle-income countries accounting for 99% of global maternal deaths of women aged 15–49 years.8 Adolescent mothers (ages 10–19 years) face higher risks of eclampsia, puerperal endometritis, and systemic infections than women aged 20 to 24 years, and babies of adolescent mother’s face excessive risks of low birth weight, severe neonatal conditions and preterm delivery
In the era of 21st century, where human rights are of utmost importance still Children are unable to access their rights and child Marriages are considered as one of the social menaces that cannot be curbed easily without the support of the society. Early marriage leads to several serious issues like obstetric complications, pregnancy induced hypertension, higher mortality rates, premature delivery, high incidence of miscarriages and stillbirths but still these practices are going on in the society. Mere legislation will not be going to serve the purpose unless society contributes with same. Strong policies and Uniform Civil Code will also help to prevent child marriage. The legal age for marriage needs to be changed from 18 years to 21 years and the marriage against the law should be considered as void.
To avoid getting a premature divorce in marriage, one should consider the age at which he/she should marry. This will make sure that she/he does not get into an unhappy marriage. A person should ensure that he has developed his/her identity fully. In addition, this person should have determined his/her life goals in order to get into a happy marriage. A person who understands himself will develop self-confidence which will help him/her understand someone else in his/her life.
