When you are a mother who is working from home, forget about getting special time, wherein you can pursue your hobby at your free time.
When you are a mother, every single minute counts. We know how much that one minute of extra sleep counts. We know how much that one peaceful moment of extra bath time helps. For us, sitting in one place and eating without getting disturbed is a real blessing, because our kids always need to use the washroom, whenever they see a plate in our hand. So every minute is precious for us.
There are times, when I have written articles, while cooking. There are times, when I have typed articles on my phone while sitting in the washroom. There are times, when I have penned down articles while taking my kids to the park. For me, sitting in one place and writing is like a dream. The maximum time, that my children allow me to write patiently is 5 minutes. Years of being a lawyer and having a good typing speed has helped me to complete my work under pressure.
The challenge is not in being able to complete your task at hand. The real challenge is in being consistent and not giving up. Slowly with time, you develop your own shortcuts to get your work done faster. For Example: Sometimes, when I am in my thinking mood and get a brain wave, I just hand over my laptop and mobile phone to my kids and immediately start writing in a notebook. I know this is a bad idea but then there are desperate times, when an idea has to come out in your notebook. My son was addicted to mobile phone and refused to write down. I started using less of laptop in front of him and started writing down my articles as pointers in front of him. That motivated him to pick up a pencil and write down. He is 7 but this action of mine has had a positive impact on him. This habit also helps me to write faster and to improvise on the spot.
When I used to go to college my travel time was 2 hours. I would complete maximum of my assignments in train. Yes. I did my assignment standing in Virar Local at rush hour. But that was a skill set that maximum students developed then. That habit gave me an hour extra at home to study for my other activity. When I was in my law college, I did my Internship, participated in all the extra curricular activities and still enjoyed the misal pav at college canteen with my friends. Here instead of Local Trains, I prepared for my competition in Court Premises. That is the time, when we were trained to utilise every single minute.
Remember as a mother, the entire family is dependent on you for their needs. It will take sometime for them to be independent. Till then stay consistent and work every single free minute that you get.
