DICTATORSHIP OF THE PROLETARIAT
Marxists, as opposed to popular belief argue that Democracy, so long as it serves for the purpose of Bourgeoisie class is nothing but a mere sham and there is no such difference between dictatorship and democracy. And relying on this analogy they argue that if liberal democracy is the dictatorship of the Bourgeoisie, than the dictatorship by the Proletariat would be a far better option. Marxists argue that, the dictatorship by the Proletariat would be a more concrete form of democracy as it would mean the rule of majority Vis. The worker class over the minority (the wealthy), would be more sustainable than the Bourgeoisie subjugating the will of the working class.
Marxists, further argue that the dictatorship of the proletariat would be nothing but just a transitional phase, only for the time being of crisis, and once the means of production are established for social ownership this dictatorship would be automatically abolished giving rise to a Socialist form of society, where the means of production are owned by the workers themselves, and the class division is withered away, a new classless society takes birth where everyone is a worker.
CONCLUSION
The Marxist theory of democracy is a concrete point of view, critical of the prevalent theories of democracy, it deals deeply with all the problems that the modern democratic nation-state faces. It gives logical reasons for the innumerable amount of issues in a democracy.
The basic tenet of Marxism is the never-ending class divide in the society which although evolved over generations but could never be abolished, Marxists argued that this class divide cannot be averred until and unless the means of social production is privately owned by a selected few. Another important aspect of Marxist theory of democracy was the emphasis laid on the materialistic point of view of society, Marx was of the view that matter instead of idea was responsible for changes in the world, unlike democracy in which ideologies are given preference over matter, Marxists criticize this mode of preference as it gives undue advantage to those who easily control the will of the masses through the immense material power they possess. Overall Marxists proved the discrepancies that are there in a liberal democracy, but unfortunately couldn’t give a concrete solution to rely upon, the author admits that they have provided us with a solid base but there’s a lot more left to work upon.
