Meaning of Noise Pollution
Noise is a type of atmospheric Pollution. It is a shadowy public enemy whose growing menace has increased in the modern age due to rapid growth of Urbanization, Industrialization and advancement of science and technology.
Today, the problem of Noise pollution has emerged as one of the serious problems and it has become a serious challenge to the quality of life of the people in the most countries.
The Environment (Protection) Act 1986 says that Noise as an “Environmental Pollutant” and empowers the central Government to frame rules prescribing the maximum permissible limits for noise is different areas.
The word “Noise” is derived from the term “Nausea” It has been defined as “Unwanted Sound, a potential hazard to health and communication dumped into the environment without regard the adverse effect it may have on unwilling ears”.
Sources of Noise Pollution
- Natural Causes of Noise Pollution
The natural cause of noise pollution are air Noise, Volcanoes, seas, rivers, waterfalls, thundering, sound and lighting in the sky, and exchanging voice of living organism including Human Beings and Animals.

Industrial Noise Pollution
Industrial noise pollution Includes the Mills, Manufacturing Companies, Big Industries using Big machines that can produce a large amount of Noise.
Transportation
Transport automobiles and other vehicle such as trucks, Buses, Cars, Scooters, Trains, jet Planes, Projection of Satellites etc.it create noise through their movement, horns, and Sirens.
Construction
The construction of buildings, stations, roads, dams, flyovers, and mining produces high noise. Construction works, stone Crushers, road rollers, dynamite blasting, Bulldozer, Mining and quarrying activities.
Social Functions
Social functions also creating noise such as Political Gathering, Marriage, Parties. Playing songs on High Volume can effect the hearing abilities of an individual who is frequent exposed to such sounds, Loudspeakers and Crackers etc.
There is various another sources of noise pollution such as Domestic gadgets such as pressure cookers, mixes, fans, air conditioners, vacuum cleaners, desert Coolers, exhaust fans, grinders, washing machine, telephones etc.
Defense machine also created noise pollution such as rockets, tanks, artillery, shooting practices, bombardments, and war explosive etc.
