Dictionary meaning of the word power is, “the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events”. In general it can be defined as the force that enables a person to have influence, control and authoritarian influence over the mind of other people. It is obvious and evident from the meaning of the word power that it makes the person stronger with a better position over others in almost all scenarios. If we bring this concept of power in international politics and international relations then it would be the ability of a nation state to control or influence the decision making power of other nations for its own benefit, of its own accords and vital interests.
In international relations power give the nation or state the ability to control others behavior towards it for its advantages and also influence resource distribution, in this sense power is used as a symbol in international relations
Talcott emphasized on meaning and use of power in international relations as a means of currency according to him power can be classified as the currency of political life just like money is currently convex people buy goods and services using money and stage spend power to keep others under the influence International relations to get the means out of things
in another sense of how can be used and regarded as means of any other valuable items as well but in the end things desired Through the power are used and employed in such ways that as an end result the produce and the value of the product bring with them greater power in return. Broadly can be said that In this Perspective power is used as an investment like in Economics people and businessmen invest their valuables and turn them into an asset with greater returns, Similarly in politics and international relationships, Nations and states invest power to get more power out of it.
Primary usage of “power” as a goal in international relations belongs to political theorists, such as Nicola Machiavelli and Hans Morgenthau, the classical realists emphasized the use and importance of power in international relations. The realist approach to power in international Relations is that “power is based on the maternal capabilities that a state controls. This is the basic force model that an actor’s power depends on its attributes.
Hans j. Morgenthau (1960) Is the foremost advocate of the concept of power as a theoretical concept of international politics in his view all politics is a struggle for power. He derives this dictum from the assumption that desire to dominate is a “constitutive element of all human associations”, Thus regardless of the aims and objectives of the government or what the government presents as its policies, The immediate aim that serves as a driving force for all the aims and objectives is to obtain and increase power. Since by definition it is evident that all the states seek to maximize their power, it can be concluded that international politics can be considered as a ground where all the nations seek to dominate each other.
