Introduction

The Metaverse can be defined as a simulated digital environment that uses augmented reality (AR) using 3D holographic avatars, virtual reality (VR), and blockchain, along with concepts from social media, to create spaces for rich user interaction mimicking the real world.

Think Ready Player one, but more accessible and pragmatic. Think social media as it exists today, but more integrated and immersive.  The nation of the metaverse – recently propelled into the mainstream by Facebook’s rebranding as Meta – will transform how we inhabit the world around us.

There has several implications:

• In addition to two-dimensional digital spaces, users will now have an immersive reality that they can occasionally inhabit.
• Content creators and designers ( especially 3D modeling and VR world- building experts) can expect new opportunities on the road ahead.
• The metaverse opens up a new economy where wealth can be created, traded, and enhanced using a currency distinct from but related to the real world.
• The metaverse necessitates the evolution of new technologies from its execution.  For example, you need a “digital me” or the digital twin of a person to simulate real world presence.
• There are concerns around data privacy, security, diversity and ethical behavior problems of the real world that may take on a new dimension in a virtual one.

How does Facebook plan to address and act on these challenges and opportunities as it invests in the metaverse in a big way? To understand this concept, we need to know metaverse in detail.

Metaverse: A Miracle Technology

The advent of the internet  is a boon to human beings.  It is because of the internet that we are able to get each and every information in a spark of seconds. Moreover, it also helps us in enhancing our knowledge by providing updated informations about anything that we want to know. Imagine what will happen if we get a chance to see things in 3D that we generally find out by surfing on the monitor screen in 2D form. Won’t we feel like a miracle happening in the world?  The name of that miracle is none other than the Metaverse. This technology is a sensational topic at present and people are showing great interest in knowing about this technology in a broader sense.

The organs of the metaverse

While the term metaverse may be new to some, it has been around as a concept for nearly three decades.  American science fiction author Neal Stephenson Introduced the metaverse in his 1992 novel, Snow Crash. In the novel, users use metaverse as an escape from a futuristic, largely dystopian world.

The metaverse technology creates a digital realm. This digital realm is not only limited upto technological devices like finding different things by using the internet. In this the user can not only look at the things but can feel and mark there presence in augmented reality. The presence of human beings will be marked by the presence of avatars that will be free to interact with each other in the 3D virtual spaces. The devices like VR headsets and wired gloves will help in providing access to the amazing virtual world.

Over the last 30 years, the industry has laid the foundations for a non – fictional metaverse brick by brick. Virtual reality headsets have become more ergonomic and affordable. Global internet penetration has steadily risen. The popularity of online gaming, often reaching tournament levels, has made it possible to envision and execute sophisticated digital avatars, tradable digital assets, and even digital real estate.

Indeed, Facebook isn’t the first company to think about the metaverse. A startup called Decentraland, which works on virtually the exact same premise is backed by $25.5 million in funding and provides users with a VR environment builder, customizable avatars, a crypto enabled marketplace, a digital wallets, and a governance system. Facebook is looking to build a similar experience, but one that intersects with pre existing, non AR/VR social media.  It announced its pivot into AR/VR along with launching its own take on the metaverse.

Attributes of Metaverse

• Decentralized Technology:-

This states that access to this technology and system will not be centrally controlled by a single authority. Thus every user will have access to the system.

• Always Available

It will be a continuously working technology that will never stop working. This technology will always be available live for the users.

• Existence of Digital Applications And Economy

The virtual world of reality will be fully the digital world. There will be only the acceptance of digital currencies like cryptocurrency.

• Easy Exchange of Information

There is no need of logging in out after the completion of a single task. It gets simply performed as soon as we begin the next task.

Metaverse: Future of the Internet

Metaverse is an interesting technology and is stated as the newer version of the internet. Initially, the entire world is moving towards digitalization.  There are many countries in the world that have become fully digitalized nations. Recently this existing form of internet technology that provides us access to several aspects is going to evolve in a better and newer version. This form of internet is called a metaverse. This topic has gained more attention after Facebook has announced itself as the first metaverse company in the world. The metaverse technology will not be limited upto devices but will make us feel our presence in the virtual world in reality. Metaverse in simple words is a virtual copy of the same physical world in which we live. The formation of the virtual world by combination of different technological devices will be made operational by the metaverse companies.

Conclusion

The concept of doing online work from home has become prevalent after the world had been hit by the tremors of COVID-19 pandemic. The use of metaverse will enable the employees to work together in the virtual environment with proper interaction among them. In the same way, metaverse will also be beneficial in the online system of learning.  The students will be able to attend their classes while sitting in their home and meet their friends and teachers in a virtual 3D world.
