Ministry of Railways in India.

Introduction

The Ministry of Railways operates the statutory body Indian Railways, an organisation that operates as a monopoly in rail transport and is headed by the Chairman and CEO of Railway Board. The Current Minister of Railways is Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Organisational structure

The Railway Board reports to the parliament through the Ministry of Railways. The Railway Board comprises one Chairman, seven members of the Railway Board, and a Financial Commissioner. It also includes a Director-General (Railway Health Services), Director-General (personnel) and a Director-General (Railway Protection Force). The directorates report to the Railway Board. Most of the officers posted in the Ministry of Railways are either from organised “Group A Railway services” or the Railway Board Secretariat Service.

Functions under Indian Railway Conference Association

  • To frame rules for the management of traffic interchanged between railways.
  • To act as a Board of Conciliation .
  • To maintain records of wagon interchange, Board Gauge and Metro Gauge separately between Indian Railways,  as well as between India Railways and Railways in Pakistan and Bangladesh as directed by the Railway Board.
  • To conduct the Neutral Control of examination of Board and Metro Gauge wagons on interchange junctions and other points.
  • To advise on other subjects relating to railways which may be referred to it.
  • To carry out such other functions as may, from time to time, be assigned to it.

Conclusion

The Ministry of Railways is a ministry in the Government of India which has a Union Minister and Minister of State and along with the Railway Board the Ministry of Railways is housed inside Rail Bhavan in New Delhi.
