Language and New education policy

Communicating in more than one language suggests that the mind has buckled down in the basic advancement stage, and therefore, the child ends up being savvy, has a superior capacity to focus, hindrance, adaptability, and are likewise better at exchanging. Capability in more than one language brings about better vocation possibilities. Alongside creating psychological abilities, they will in general give better execution. It additionally empowers them to approach a wide scope of occupation markets. They will in general have a part of higher status than their monolingual partners. The climate wherein multilingual youngsters will in the general investigation causes them to acknowledge they don’t should be something very similar for correspondence. They will in general be more empathic and approach different systems administration gatherings

In India, we do not have any national language, rather we have 22 official languages (including English). The states in our country are divided on a linguistic basis as a result, every state has its native language as its official language. English has the ‘lingua Francis “ status in our country owing to the rich cultural diversity of our country. In government-funded schools, English is presented in the fifth class ahead as a subsequent language because of which the enlistment proportion in state-funded schools is not exactly the non-public schools. Capable English is frequently expected as a pointer of higher instructive, and social standing. Expanding globalization prompts the thought of Language training as an essential piece of the educational program all throughout the planet. The three-language formula under NEP says that of the three languages two should be native to India. English is excluded from the list.

Freedom to choose the languages is left with the states, region, or students. It was first introduced in India by the central government in 1968 and was incorporated in the NEP. The basic motive behind this move to make students learn more languages. In the US language is considered a core subject along with other subjects.  In Australia, the foreign language taught is referred to as LOTE which is a language other than English and similar to other countries like China, etc. Howard Gardner says that like a GPS works with the coordination of three satellites, children should know at least three languages 3 language policy would result in a shift from the omnipresence of English and Hindi as a medium of instruction towards a better place that will customize education to the needs of children. According to the policy, two out of the three languages need to be native Indian languages.

The benefits include a better understanding of curriculum content and a positive attitude towards school.  The fact is that learning starts at home and is further continued in school. Learning at home basically consists of experience. Using one’s home language enables them to bridge the gap between learning and the experience the kids bring along with them.

The concepts taught in the home language need not be explained while studying the same concept in another language. Using learners’ home language enables better understanding and participation in the learning process. It also helps the learner to retain their cultural identity, but when the kids have to start a language that is still new to them it results in a lack of creativity, enthusiasm and the learning process becomes dull. Not every parent is qualified enough to teach their kids in English hence this policy would enable a lot of parents to be a part of the learning process of their kids Not only for kids but for teachers.  It becomes easy on their part to design curriculum in a more creative manner and makes it less stressful.
