New Education Policy 2020

The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), which was endorsed by the Union Cabinet of India on 29 July 2020, traces the vision of India’s new instruction system. The new approach replaces the past National Policy on Education, 1986. The course of action is an expansive design for simple tutoring to high-level training similar to expert planning in both rural and metropolitan India. The arrangement intends to change India’s schooling framework by 2021.

Not long after the arrival of the arrangement, the public authority explained that nobody will be compelled to concentrate on a specific language and that the mode of guidance won’t be moved from English to any provincial language. The language strategy in NEP is an expansive rule and warning in nature; and it is up to the states, organizations, and schools to settle on the implementation. Education in India is a Concurrent List subject.

Main Key Highlights of NEP

1. Public spending on education by states and the Center has been increased to 6% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
2. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has been renamed as the Ministry of Education.
3. There will be no rigid separation between arts and science, academic and vocational, curricular and extracurricular streams.
4. Education of gifted children will be looked into.
5. Establishment of a Gender Inclusion fund.

New Pedagogy and Curriculum for School Education

Universalisation of Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE) will be implemented. The existing educational structure of 10 + 2 years has been redesigned to 3+2+3+3+4 years, which will be as follows:

Foundational Stage: This will be for a total of 5 years:

3 years at an Anganwadi/Balvatika/preschool/playschool for children in the age group of 3 to 6 years with multi-level play and activity-based learning

2 years in class 1 and 2 for children in the age group of 6 to 8 with multi-level play and activity-based learning

Preparatory Stage: This will for a total of 3 years:

For classes 3 through 5

For the children’s who are in the age group of 8 to 11

Activity-based and interactive classroom learning

Middle Stage: This will be for a total of 3 years:

For classes 6 through 8.

For children in the age group of 11 to 14 years

Experiential learning in science, mathematics, social sciences, arts, and humanities

Secondary Stage: This will be for a total of 4 years:

For classes 9 through 12.

For the children’s who are in the age group of 14 to 18.

Multidisciplinary study, student’s choice of subjects, critical thinking,

School Education

1. By the year 2030, universalization of education will be implemented from age 3 to class 10.
2. Key assessments will be conducted at classes 3, 5, and 8.
3.  Students can choose subjects, especially in secondary school, which would include arts and crafts, vocational skills, and physical education.
4. By the year 2025, the National Mission on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy will ensure that basic skills are imbibed by the class 3 level.
5. From class 6, coding and vocational skills training will be integrated into the curriculum.
6. Indian knowledge, values, and culture, including indigenous and tribal knowledge, will be integrated into the curriculum.
7. There will be a new accreditation framework for schools.
8. There will be an independent authority for the regulation of both private and public schools.

Board Examinations

1. Board tests will be overhauled to test center capabilities as opposed to memorization of realities.
2. They will be upgraded to be simpler for understudies.
3. Understudies will be allowed to take the tests twice.
4. There might be secluded or semester-wise board tests.
5. There might be tests for various degrees of trouble.
6. Even-handed and graphic sort questions may have various tests.
7. A secluded model, instead of only one board, might be set up continuously in 2023.

Undergraduate Education

1. Undergraduate degrees will have duration of 4 years
2. Undergraduate degrees will be multi-disciplinary, holistic, and flexible
3. There will be multiple exit options with appropriate certifications at each exit point such as:
4. Certificate after completing 1 year in a vocational or professional field
5. Diploma after 2 years
6. Bachelor’s degree after 3 years
7. Students completing the 4-year degree program can obtain a degree with research if the research subject is within the area of study

Postgraduate Education

1. Postgraduate projects will have a length of 1 to 2 years
2. There will be no M.Phil. Programs
3. In 15 years, the school association framework will be progressively eliminated
4. Each school will form into either a constituent school of a college or into a self-ruling degree-conceding organization
5. There will be another umbrella administrative body for all advanced education courses except legitimate and clinical courses
6. An Academic Bank of Credit will be set up to work with a smoother move between foundations
7. All independent specialized colleges, lawful colleges, horticultural colleges, and wellbeing science colleges will become multi-disciplinary organizations.
