Oceans’s 8 – A chick Flick for a Saturday Night

I know this is not exactly the movie that would fall into the category of a Chick Flick but yeh it has a girl gang in the lead role and it is simply fun. I mean even a gang of Girls can also have fun right. Ok Ok, I am not trying to be sexist or promoting any crime for that matter, but its one of my comfort movies, when I miss a lot of people in my life.

The story is about 8 Ladies, who are an expert in their respective fields. So what is their expertise ? To con people.

The film is both a continuation of and a spin-off from  Ocean’s trilogy. The Movie features Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling, and Helena Bonham Carter. The film follows a group of women led by Debbie Ocean, the sister of Danny Ocean, who plan a sophisticated heist at the annual Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

What I liked about the movie was

  1. It has strong female leads, with their individual personalities. A rare quality we see in Indian movies.
  2. Even though it is a heist , the relationship and co-ordination that the women have with each other, is simply awesome.
  3. They stand up for each other and are completely focussed towards their goal.

I know this is a movie but I don’t remember a single Bollywood movie, which talks about strong bond between women folks apart from a few like Dor. I just curl up with this movie and some crisp, if I want to relax mentally. Yes, I do miss my girlfriends and this movie helps me fulfill that vacumm. Even though this movie is about a heist, with some amazing actresses who look so fit and fabulous despite being in their 50’s. Anne Hathway is the perfect Diva.\

I love the ending of the movie i.e. the Epilogue, wherein they show all the women fulfilling their dream with the amount of money they earn, whether it was Mindy Kailing, who plays Amita in the movie going on her romantic date in front of the Effiel tower or Nine Ball portrayed by Rihanna, who opens her own Pool Parlour and of course my Favourite Anne Hathway, starts directing her own movie.

A movie, which chases dreams, takes revenge, has fun and also fulfills dreams. A good getaway for the weekend. Do not use your brains while watching this movie.

My favourite Character – the lead Danny Ocean played by Sandra Bullock, the way she plans this heist for five years, and rectifies her own plan when she is caught. Also, I loved Nine Ball, played by Rihanna, who is just so Badass.. Hope you all enjoy the movie with a bucket of popcorn.
