ODISHA: A HIDDEN GEM

Odisha, formerly known as Orissa, is a state of India. It is located in the eastern part of the country. It is bounded by the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal to the north, by the Bay of Bengal to the east, and by the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to the south and Chhattisgarh to the west. Before India became independent in 1947, Cuttack was the capital of Odisha. The present capital was subsequently built at Bhubaneshwar, in the vicinity of the city’s historic temples and in the east-central coastal plains. In late 2011 the state’s name was officially changed from Orissa to Odisha. Area bbeing-60,119 square miles (155,707 square km). Population being(2011) 41,947,358.

Odisha is a peaceful state with common people who respect and protect nature. The wild spread forests and culture is beautiful in its own way. They are one of the largest producer of mines, steel plants, SAIL, largest production of steel and resources. Being one of those states with least crime rate and peaceful environment it makes it immensely safe and happy to reside in.

A state where political culture is rich but without many issues or drama, that’s Odisha. Shri Naveen Pattnaik has been chief minister of Odisha since the last 21 years. The running of elections are smooth and barely anything loud. It is a state where around 3 to 4 cyclones are hit in a single year from time to time. And here people deal with it calmly with the help of government and even without the help of high scale media coverage. It is one of those states which is completely ignored by mainstream media, and thus not many people know about the rich culture of it.

Some facts about Odisha:
Land of temples- Puri is one of the dhams, has one of the world only leaning temple’s, Rath yatra one of those festivals whose crowd is immensely huge.
Wide forest area- wildlife, white tigers, bengal tiger, huge fresh water crocodiles, huge tree plantations
• Largest supplier of staple food
• Presence of one of the oldest dance form all over the world- Odissi
• Presence of oldest rock mountains- which is around 3 billion years old, where the beginning of mankind is about 5 billion years older.
• Rich sea food culture- fish, shrimp, crabs, etc
• Wide variety of sweet dishes
Odisha is beautiful. It’s actually sad, such a land filled with water bodies, water falls, forest, beaches, culture, food, temples, etc is hidden from the world. People should know more about it, even people of our country ignore . Hope someday people will understand and it’s beauty and visit ODISHA.
