In this OTT era, and amid COVID-19, the examinations are mainly held online. From classes to exams, everything is conducted online. The education system is currently dependent on internet and applications supporting various multiple choices question and even subjective type. It is a technique first experimented by universities and colleges and now it if even being practiced in high school level examinations as well.
Current social distancing norms has resulted in adopting new technology for secure online exams process. Security during online exams is one of the critical success factors for management of academic exams, as students have become sharper and smarter. And thus to find a shortcut to ace in an exam is highly practiced.
However, with the introduction of this new technology, new concerns about security have come up. While implementing online examination technology, it is essential to take into consideration the various security aspects, which can make a transparent effect on the conduct of the exams.
Secure Online examination System would provide better and safe online exams. It also helps to improve the brand image and reputation of the college and even quality of the students and no lack of educational practice within students. Online examination system without proper information security framework can hamper the overall process and quality of the exam process, this making it easier for the students to cheat.
Ways to conduct a safe and secure exam:
• Proctoring: be it video and audio, if it checked and monitored, cheating can be prevented
• Secure Browser Technology: prevents users from opening any other window while the online examination process is going on. The user is allowed to access only the examination window.
• Remote Proctoring system: a supervisor is not required to be present at the examination centre. The test can be proctored even from remote locations.
• Screen capturing: proctoring can be done even by taking screenshots of the screens of the student’s current access
• Data encryption: plays an important role in preventing unauthorized access to question banks. It also helps to avoid result manipulation without valid credentials. It is a vital feature to make sure the security of the examination.
• Audit logging facility: the system also records details of activities like Question Navigation, Section Changes, and Internet Speed. Using techniques like geotagging it is possible to track the exact location of the user during online exam activity, therefore a proper way to monitor the activities of the device.
It’s difficult to check each and every individual, as for us, students and family members, we have to encourage less practice of unfair means and support methods which can help us in long run anf thus make us intelligent and knowledgeable.
