Pets and their benefits on physical and emotional health.

Keeping pets can bring many benefits. Caring for animals can help relieve your depression and anxiety, reduce stress levels, and even improve your heart health. Most pet owners will share the direct joy of life with their companion animals. However, many of us still don’t realize the physical and mental health benefits that can be brought about by the fun of snuggling with furry friends. Until recently, research has begun to scientifically explore the benefits of the relationship between humans and animals. Pets have evolved to adapt to humans and our behaviours and emotions. For example, dogs can understand many of the words we use, but they are better at explaining our tone of voice, body language, and gestures. Just like your good friend, a loyal dog will look into your eyes to judge your emotional state and try to understand your thoughts and feelings (of course, it will also calculate the time for the next walk or reward).

Pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce stress, anxiety and depression, relieve loneliness, encourage exercise and play, and even improve your cardiovascular health. Taking care of animals can help your children grow up safer and more active. Pets can also provide valuable companionship for the elderly. But the most important thing is that pets can bring real happiness and unconditional love to your life. Although people who own pets usually get great health benefits, pets don’t have to be dogs or cats. Even watching fish in the aquarium can help reduce muscle tension and lower the pulse rate. One of the reasons for these effects is that pets meet the basic needs of human touch. Even stubborn criminals in jail, after interacting with their pets, also show long-term behaviour changes. It is the first time that many prisoners experience each other’s feelings. When you feel stressed or anxious, petting, hugging or touching cute animals in other ways can quickly calm you down and soothe your emotions. The companionship of pets can also alleviate loneliness. Most dogs have a great stimulating effect on healthy exercises, which can greatly improve your mood and relieve depression. A healthy lifestyle plays an important role in relieving symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Taking care of pets can help you change a healthy lifestyle in the following ways:

1. Help us build self-esteem

Taking care of pets can give the owner a sense of accomplishment and promote mental health. In the process of taking care of our pets, we complete the corresponding tasks step by step, which will give us a sense of accomplishment and build self-respect. The establishment of self-esteem is extremely important, especially for patients with depression, because many patients are exposed to external stimuli during their lives and work, which leads to a decline in self-esteem, and gradually denies self, which leads to depression.

2. Help us improve our social skills

Taking care of pets can help reduce loneliness, increase opportunities for physical exercise, and increase social frequency. For example, by walking the dog, it is natural to increase outings and walks to get in touch with the outside world. Accompanied by pets, in contact with nature, people can relax their mood, release stress, and feel the warm companionship of pets. At the same time, in the process of walking the dog, you will get to know other pet owners, and share your pet experience with your friends, which can improve your social skills to a certain extent.

3. Stimulate our enthusiasm for life

When pet care becomes an indispensable item in our lives, we will take the initiative to understand and practice the corresponding pet care methods. Whether it is feeding pets, bathing, or veterinarian appointments, these regular lives can help maintain our low-stress levels and make us passionate about life.
