Women are often referred to as extravagant, spending a lot of money, shopping now and then but what about the concept of Pink Tax? Forget about the concept, why ‘Pink Tax’ came in the first place.
According to Wikipedia:
The pink tax refers to the broad tendency for products marketed specifically toward women to be more expensive than those marketed for men, despite either gender’s choice. This phenomenon is often attributed to gender-based price discrimination, with the name stemming from the observation that many of the affected products are pink. The NYC Department of consumer conducted a study in 2015 on the cost of being a female consumer that concluded that women’s products are typically more expensive than men’s without reasonable cause. There are many causes of this discrepancy, including the tampon tax, product differentiation, and the belief that women are less price elastic than men.
I observed that the men razor cost half as much as the women even if we buy of the same brand. There is a lot of beauty, necessary products on which we see a huge difference of the amount on men products and women products. Apart from all this we also hear that we are extravagant and spend a lot of money even on common products.
Men soap price range starts from Rs.10 but women soap price range starts from Rs.50. And yeah, men can use anything on their body or hair but for women, we don’t use any random products. I personally use only organic products. No paraben, no sulfate, no harmful ingredients. Above all women spend money because they can. They earn money or their father allows them to do so. Then who are others to judge?
The pink tax concept is discrimination against women. In a world where 60% of its population is fighting for equality between men and women. On the other side, there is a concept of Pink Tax. Well, manufacturing company should try to range their products in which it can be available to all. There is a pink tax even on tampons and sanitary pad. At least make them available at the lowest price possible so that every girl could afford them.
