The next inspirational woman that we have with us is Ms. Priya Paul, who took the hotel business to new heights and is also one of the most powerful names in the hotel industry.
Paul is chairperson and CEO of THE Park Hotels — an Indian chain of luxury boutique hotels. At present she and her family members co-own the Apeejay Surrendra Group, one of India’s oldest and largest business conglomerates. The group, which employs more than 43,000 people, owns THE Park Hotels and Typhoo Tea, and has holdings in the shipping, real estate, retail and finance sectors.
She joined the company in the year 1988m after finishing her studies at the Wellesley College (US), to work under her father, as a marketing manager at The Park New Delhi, at the age of 21. After the death of Surrendra Paul she succeeded him in 1990 as the chairperson of the hospitality division of the Apeejay Surendra Group.
Currently, she is a member of the National Council of Science Museums, the advisory council of national tourism, and the chairperson of the South Asia Women’s Fund. She was appointed as VC of the WTTC for 2013 – Indian Initiative Trustee, and the Trustee of (IFA) India Foundation of Arts. Priya Paul is, raked by Forbes in 2019, as one of Asia’s 50 influential businesswomen.
