Renewable energy as some refer to it as clean energy is the need of the hour. Natural resources are depleting quickly and it is going to be very difficult to survive without these resources. The overall demand for energy is increased manifold around the world and there is not enough of these resources to supply the existing demand. Energy like Petroleum and Natural gas by the year 2030-35 will be under high threat of depletion, if any alternative sources do not substitute or supplement them. Together with the rapid growth of the world population, the limited ability to supply of non-renewable leads to energy demand on a rise especially in developing countries. This situation results in the risk of depletion of cheap fossil energy and environmental pollution as well as climate change 

Now days nations have realised the issue to depleting natural resources and have boosted innovation in the field of renewable energy. These innovations are bringing down energy costs and delivering a clean, green and effective alternatives for non-renewable energy. 

When we say, “renewable energy”, “renewable energy sources”, or “green energy” we mean any energy from a source that is not depleted when used, such as the wind or sun; we can use an unlimited amount of the sun or wind’s energy because its supply is infinite. 

The most common renewable energy resources are, 

Solar energy 

Wind energy 

Hydro energy 

Tidal energy 

Geothermal energy 

Biomass energy 

Humans have been harnessing solar energy for thousands of years to grow crops, stay warm, and dry foods. More energy from the sun falls on the earth in one hour than is used by everyone in the world in one year. Today, we use the sun’s rays in many ways to heat homes and businesses, to warm water, or power devices. 

The use of wind energy is also increasing rapidly and provides electricity at a lower cost. Biomass is organic material that comes from plants and animals, and includes crops, waste wood, and trees. When biomass is burned, the chemical energy is released as heat and can generate electricity with a steam turbine. Hydro energy is also a good alternative as water in dams and rivers can be put to use to generate electricity. 

While these alternatives are effective and the best option, we have cost can be a barrier. Rapid advances in technology, supply chains, and government policy have contributed to their growth in recent years. 

Recently, the Prime Minister of India has announced about having huge renewable energy deployment plans for India for the next decade which are likely to generate business prospects of around $20 billion per year. 

Post the inauguration of the 3rd Global Renewable Energy Investment Meeting and Expo (RE-Invest 2020), the PM addressed and invited the investors, developers and businesses to join India’s renewable energy journey. 

After the success of Performance Linked Incentives (PLI) in electronics manufacturing, the government has decided to give similar incentives to high efficiency solar modules. 

Renewable energy not only addressed the issue of depleting natural resources but also facilitates the economy. Because if increased demand for renewable energy and innovations for same employment is increasing in this field. Non-renewable energy sources are only able to be found in certain parts of the world. This means that they are not equally distributed, for example the “oil-rich” Arab states. In contrast, every country on Earth has access to renewable sources such as the sun and wind. Prioritizing renewable energy therefore levels the playing field and makes countries less reliant on others
