Voting is considered as one of the basic rights of the citizens in India as according to the Indian Constitution all the Indian citizens who have been registered as voters and have reached the age of 18 years are eligible to vote. These people can vote in elections for national, state, regional, and local government body. No one can be detained or prevented from voting unless they meet the disqualification criteria. Each voter can only cast one vote. Voters can vote individually in the electoral districts in which they are registered.  Eligible voters must register in the electoral district where they live, and they will receive a photo-enclosed election ID (also known as an EPIC card) in that electoral district. Individuals who are not registered or who do not have a voter ID cannot participate in the election process.

As a voter you have the right to enjoy certain rights and privileges stipulated in the Constitution, which protects the rights of voters. It also stipulates the conditions for granting citizens this privilege. The right to vote is not a basic right, but a legal right granted to citizens. So for voting their are certain rights are applicable under the constitution.

• All voters have the right to know the candidates participating in the election. Article 19 of the Indian Constitution grants voters this right. This section authorizes voters to search for information related to the candidate’s election manifesto, their total financial value, and their criminal record (if any).
• Voters are granted the right not to vote, which is recorded in the system. Also known as NOTA voting (none of the above), voters participate in an election but choose not to vote for any candidate participating in the election.
•  In this way, voters participate in the election process and exercise the right to choose whether they are willing to vote for competing candidates.
• NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) were not allowed to vote until recently. However, an amendment was made in 2010 to allow NRIs to register as voters and vote in elections even if they have not lived in the country for more than 6 months for any reason.
•  According to the current law, prisoners cannot exercise their right to vote.
• Special assistance for illiterate voters: – According to the electoral law guidelines, voters who are unable to vote due to physical disability or other similar illnesses and cannot vote by mail can seek help from election officials who will record your vote.

Voting is important for each and every individual of the citizens as It has become a common ritual to speak bitterly of any candidate or elected leader of any legislative assembly or parliament. Look for errors and then boil down to “systems” and how democracy does not work as expected. However, there is not much room for “what the people can do” to consolidate the foundation of democracy and bring about institutional changes. Just as it is the responsibility of the elected leader to satisfy the well-being of the voters, so is the need for the people of India to help elect the right leader to represent them. Democracy gave people a powerful power that will vote. Voting is a fundamental basis of the main leaders, people and slogan of people. Therefore, instead of enjoying it as a holiday, you should vote if you really want to contribute to the national process and want to change. Citizens do not have to find why citizens are voting. There is no legal obligation to vote, but it has to be a compulsive duty.
