The World Health Organization is a leading organization involved in the global coordination for mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic, within the broader United Nations response to the pandemic caused by the emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in late 2019.World Health Organization representatives holding joint meeting with Tehran city administrators in March 2020.
On 5 January 2020, the WHO notified the world about “pneumonia of unknown cause” in China and subsequently followed up with investigating the disease. On 20 January, the WHO confirmed human-to-human transmission of the disease. On 30 January, the WHO declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern and warned all countries to prepare. On 11 March, the WHO said that the outbreak constituted a pandemic. By 5 October the same year, the WHO estimated that a tenth of the world’s population had been infected with the novel virus.
It is believed that “patient zero” in the coronavirus outbreak was a resident of Wuhan – a large city in Hubei province in China – who began experiencing symptoms on December 1, 2019, and was hospitalized around December 16. It was not until December 27, however, that abnormalities in other hospital patients’ CT scans were reported to local authorities. Thereafter, on December 31, the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission posted a public notice regarding 27 cases of pneumonia of “unknown cause” on its website.
WHO’s China country office got wind of the local health commission’s notice, and promptly issued requests for additional information the next day (January 1, 2020). After receiving preliminary information from local authorities, WHO conducted an independent field visit to Wuhan on January 20 and 21, 2020. On January 30, 2020, WHO’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, declared the coronavirus outbreak a global public health emergency (PHEIC), which authorized WHO to issue recommendations for member countries to follow.sense that this indirectly concerns the leader of one or two governments in particular, so I’ll set sail on that boat.
First of all, nobody is perfect. The WHO did nearly everything right. They got a few things absolutely wrong, or they dragged their feet when they shouldn’t have. They were also mislead by a few governments. The WHO wasn’t alone in this. The Chinese government is also to blame for several things, all well documented. The UK government made mistakes because they followed the wrong advice—from their own politicians. They’ve since corrected course. My own government decided to downplay the warnings—possibly in part because the WHO hesitated in calling “Pandemic” but also because a certain politician was so concerned with his “look” that he not only downplayed the danger, he golfed and held rallies for a full month as the virus took hold in our country. The WHO on the whole did a decent job, and is still doing a decent job, despite the hiccups they encountered in the beginning. However, the delays, the accepting of bad information, the missteps by leaders of nations has cost us far more in lives and in economic harm than it could have.
Role of WHO in providing global health security during Covid-19 pandemic
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines Global public health security as “the activities required to minimize the danger and impact of acute public health events that endanger the collective health of populations living across geographical regions and international boundaries.” Has WHO been successful in doing its best to deliver suitable and evidence-based response measures to deal with this global public health threat? WHO is blamed for its negligence to cover up China’s failure to handle the crisis. Besides, it is not equipped with the essential authority to effectively accomplish its mission. Adequate global health can’t be achieved simply with high-level coordination. It requires a responsive system of governance supported by global political cooperation. However, WHO has been striving for mitigating global health security risks during the pandemic through containing emergence and spread of COVID-19, providing technical guidance on it, working in collaboration with scientists, business, and global health organizations to speed up the pandemic response and giving advice for international travel and trade in relation to the outbreak to stop disease to spread further.
At present, there is a blind storm of government jobs in young students and some of them have inculcated one thing that there is no life without government job. Even they move forward towards government jobs without any thinking and starts preparing for competitive exams. Well educated students like M.Tech, B.Tech, B.Ed. even PhD. students are taking coaching to crack government exams although they are from different fields. This time, if candidates find any notification regarding government. the job they apply for that and well-educated students are ready to join forth class government jobs like a gatekeeper, cleaner, sweeper etc. To some extent, some parents, relatives and societies play a significant role to push their youngsters towards government. jobs. Because they think the only government an employee can get respect as well as a good salary. Moreover, they also think that only government. an employee can get a higher status in society. Actually, this is not the reality but the thinking of some goofy people who never explore the world with open eyes and never accepted the nature with open arms.
There are lots of factors which ultimately changes the right direction of student’s life, vital two are as follows – 1) Lack of proper guidance – Lack of proper guidance affect the student’s life’s direction, without proper guidance any person is unable to choose right track, which is a most crucial part of our life. About 70 to 80% of the students are wondering here and there because of this reason and wasting their valuable time as well as money. Due to this reason, they are unable to recognize their real talent and waste their potential. 2) Lack of self-confidence – Lack of self-confidence is one of the most dangerous factors which demoralize the students and prevent them to move ahead towards any other field or become self-employed. Apart from it, students are unable to take decisions of their life and trample their dreams due to this reason.
If students want to make the most of their life they have to come out of mob mentality and protect their mind from outside rumours. They must take guidance from their mentors. They should be able to recognize their own talent because on behalf of their talent they will be successful, as we have seen a number of examples in our life, then students should follow their passion and dreams.
