When a graduate who has completed his degree in Medicine or Law enters into the profession, at the early stage he is expected to do his internship at least for a couple of years. Engineers on the other hand get a handsome pay right from the begining (if you are from a decent college). An individual, who joins in a call center, gets around 10-15 thousand per month.
A lot of law graduates and medical graduates also become a part of KPO or LPO, just because they pay more than what an internship at a good hospital or a law firm would pay you in the begining. Students and their parents invest huge amount of time and money for completion of their studies in India. Here the parents support their children till they graduate unlike in other countries, where students try and pay for their own tution fees.
The Rote system, which has been practiced since years, has been continued even till the undergraduate level and therefore a lot of students, who pass out are not ready for employment. The Professionals need continuous learning system and therefore in some fields, when you join your profession, there are a lot of things that you need to first learn and only then you are capable of practising on your own. Fields such as medicine and law need more practical knowledge. Therefore a lot of times, interns in these fields are paid very less initially, compared to the amount of hardwork that they put into.
Salary is definately one of the biggest reasons for motivation for a person to work. It would be wrong to say that a person does not want to work for money.
