Today when Shloka education is available to everyone, it is important to understand the significance of the same and also pass it on to our future generation. If given an option to learn between Shlokas and Coding, I would personally learn Shlokas. The reason being our Shlokas have a lot of hidden meaning behind our science and practices, which in today’s time is of utmost importance.
Gayatri Vamsi, from Buzzing Bees, who conducts Shloka Classes for Children talks about the importance of learning Shlokas for tiny tots and how it helps in development of children.
How do slokas help children calm down ?
There are many countries around the world, based on ancient civilizations. Each one of these follow distinct ancient traditions. Traditions are the way of living and have tremendous values behind it. However these value based practices are fading away in the name modernization.
While some things need to be changed with changing times, some need to remain unchanged too.
It is well known fact that how a person’s morning routine impacts the rest of their day.Hence it is very important to wake up happy, on a positive note. Spend the first few minutes to Thank Mother Earth, God and Everyone and Everything around us.
For Example at Buzzing Bees,in Mystic Mythology we teach children 3 slokas to recite on waking up and encourage Yoga practice. Through this, the brain starts the day with calmness and the heart is filled with gratitude. Sloka recitation also helps to improve concentration amongst students.
What is the best age to teaching Shloka to children
The earlier the better. Around 5 will be a good age. If you teach them and make it a practice to recite Slokas everyday right from childhood, it becomes a second nature to them. This will be beneficial even when they grow up. We at Buzzing Bees focus on why and where and when a Sloka is recited, the purport and the reason behind the particular sloka. Kids 6years and above can enroll for our classes.
What are the benefits of sloka teaching to children ?
Sloka recitation has its own set of benefits..
- Chanting Slokas help improve concentration and memory. The slokas emit vibrations that activate the Chakras and helps them to be calm.
- Through repetition, neurons get fired up and memory power improves.
- Slokas are in Sanskrit which is the mother of all languages and hence recitation may help children learn other languages well.
- Sloka chanting helps children sharpen their intellect. Recitation enhances systematic breathing and supplies additional oxygen to the brain which helps it stay sharp and focus better.
- Learning new language through slokas helps neuroplasticity and keeps your mind young and flexible.
- Sloka recitation is a natural way to boost the immune system. The pressure on the tongue slips the vocal cord and connecting regions on the brain along with proper breathing techniques helps to boost the immune system. Everyday Chanting lowers blood pressure, heart rate and hence helps children stay stress free and healthy.
Is it mandatory to learn Sanskrit before learning slokas ?
The beauty of slokas is that you need not know Sanskrit for learning. However knowledge of the language definitely helps you understand Slokas better..
How does reciting slokas help having a balanced physical and mental health of a child
Recitation and memorization of slokas expand the memory power, The cognitive skills also improve and these practices lead to better mental and physical health. One small example.
Yuktha hara viharasya
Yuktha cheshtasya karmasu
Yuktha swapna vabodasya
Yogo bhavathi dukha ha
Life should always be comfortable. The activities we do throughout the day should be trouble-free to us and to others. When we talk about the perfect way to eat, we recommend healthy food, not junk. Similarly, it is better to suggest activities which help in mental growth than cause stress.
One of the slokas we teach in our curriculum talks about keeping everything at a moderate level.By creating this kind of awareness among children we try to keep their physical and mental health intact.
How can parents teach slokas to their children at home
Parents can teach children at home. Either teach them what parents know or can use aids/ courses like what we have and teach them. It will help children learn better as well. My best advice would be to start with what you know and slowly introduce them to other Slokas.
The new NEP proposed Sanskrit to be taught in schools, will this step encourage our future generations to go back and learn our history and appreciate it.
NEP as of now is only a framework or suggested guidelines. It is indeed a great step to see Sanskrit to be taught in school. Sanskrit being the mother of all languages will certainly help the children. And yes it will encourage future generations when implemented and taught in the right way.
Sharing a few feedbacks from Parents, who have enrolled their children for the Shloka Classes.

Bharani and Vibha
Here it is Since 2 months ,my daughter , Vibha is taking gayathri’s shloka classes. She is thoroughly enjoying all the sessions. She is so excited to attend everytime with same energy…. Also the way Gayathri takes time in correcting the right sound while chanting the sholkas for each child is so motivational… My daughter is religiously chanting her morning and night sholkas every day.Gayathri’s explanation of each sloka with our practical life activities is helping my daughter to adapt chanting sholkas as part of her daily routine. Thanks Gayathri…
Subhashini and Pari
My daughter Pari enjoyed Sloka class. The way you explain with simple language and stories is beautiful. She also learnt when to tell what sloka and made her to feel gratitude for the things she have. I like the way you involve all children. You made all the children to tell the slokas individually and correcting them if any mistakes. And u also provide feedback and encourage each child by listening to their slokas recording. Hats off to ur patience mam. Thank u very much mam.
Naresh and Sahasraa
We have been following BuzzingBees for a while now and were impressed with the various programmes the institute has been conducting for kids and parents. We enrolled our daughter Saakshara, 5 yrs old, to the Slokas training program in the month of Jul. Gayathri Ma’am has done a splendid job in teaching Slokas to kids of such young age while also explaining the meaning and purpose of each Sloka. Saakshara now continues to practice and recite the Slokas on a daily basis. Seeing her interest in the programme, we also enrolled her for the Ashtakams class in August. We are happy that the kid could learn these at such an young age. This surely is a good foundation for her. Thank you Gayathri Ma’am for nurturing the love for Slokas and Ashtakams in the kids at an young age. We recommend the course to kids of all age group.” Naresh, Sahasraa’s dad.
