Society and Technology
A society is an organised group of person associated together for the purpose such as social, political and religious while technology on the other hand is an application or even sometimes seen as object.
Technology have very much impacted the society. The relationship between technology and society is reciprocal. Society drives technological change while changing technologies in turn shape society. Ancient and modern human civilizations have both been benefitted an impeded by the technological innovations, inventions and engineering applications used within societies to perform specific tasks. For societies to thrive and evolve, technological innovations have become necessary while at the same time the culture, ideals and aspirations of human societies have shaped how these civilization have created, benefitted from and impeded by technology. As technological system are invented by humans and reflect the very essence of a population’s needs and culture human societies/ technology have become inseparable from one another. Technology affects the way individuals communicate, learn and think. It has positive and negative effects on the world and it impacts daily lives. This is an era where technological advancements are very much common.
Technology determinism is the theory that technology is an autonomous force that changes society and it is also to the key force to our society. Technology is major and really the main cause of social change as lot of changes in the society is largely caused by technology but with human control.
Technology society and life or technology and culture refers to interdependency, co dependence, co – influence and co production of technology and society upon one another.
Technology have advanced economies such as the modern global economy and has lead to the rise of leisure class. Innovation influences the values of society and raise new questions in the ethics of technology.
One of the aspect of technology that has had great impact on society is that how it affects learning. It has made learning more interactive and collaborative which has made the people’s learning very easier and they are able to do without much great trouble. It has also expanded the boundary of the classroom encouraging self paced learning. During the COVID times technology has proved to be of much great help. Students are able to just sit at their home and effectively learn just on a click. Even people are able to do their office work just by sitting at their homes. Work from home has become common nowadays.
Another important way how the technology have impacted the society is the way how we communicate. Technology has brought in very much new modes of communication. People can do many of their works with the help of technology comfortably.
Increasing representation of a very wide variety of content in digital form is really easier and cheaper duplication and distribution of information.
It has even negatively impacted the society when it comes to being sociable and face to face contact. Mobile technology can decrease communication and relations between people. Technology shapes the way humans act today. The rapid increase in computing and communication power has raised considerable concern about privacy in both public and private sector. Failures in the technological infrastructure can cause the collapse of economic and social functionality.
There are lot of philosophical debates that have arisen over the technology that whether it improves the human condition or worsens it. Several movements like Neo Luddhism, anarcho- primitivism and similar such other movements have criticised the pervasiveness of technology, arguing that it harms the environment and alienates people.
The ongoing computing and communications revolution has numerous economic and social impacts on modern society and requires serious social science investigation in order to maintain its risks and dangers. Many choices being made now will be costly or difficult to modify in future.
