“WE ARE INDIAN, FIRSTLY AND LASTLY.” – BABA SAHEB AMBEDKAR
Being blessed with a surname given by his Brahmin teacher ‘AMBEDKAR’ was born on the 14th of April,1891 into Marah caste. Bhim Rao fought a tremendous fight for the soil of India. The Varna system which could not be defied by the the gods themselves, Dr. Ambedkar decided to take the call for the ones that formed the most hardworking population of India.
When India was showing a war-face for independence, the great soul was fighting a dual battle. He fought for the empowerment of women and for the dalits too. He proposed the Hindu Bill which looked for eradicating Sati Pratha, abolishment of the Pardha System and dowry system, though the thought was rejected. If it was passed then, it would have been obliterated in 1951 itself. Having a foresight for India, he worked very hard as the chairman of the Constitution Assembly by analysis the constitution of every nation and then framing the first draft.
Struggling for the social equality and freedom for the Independent India, Dr. Ambedkar also brought-in the thought for opposition of income tax for the lower income strata. This theory of his also gave him an insight to the formulation of the Reserve Bank of India. His knowledge also led to the devising of the the directive principles that are till date one of the major field in the constitution which are still holding up strong like pillar and also developing with passing time.
One of the major highlights that prompt his work in the field, talks about Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. Though, against his wish, it was still passed. But as the scenario stands, we can clearly see that after so many debates over decades, it was struck off from the largest and bulkiest constitution in the world.
Dr. Ambedkar was also a strong advocate of the uniform civil code, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, political, economic and social democracy. Being vocal for the Equality concept, he also justified the need of the Impartial Judiciary for the successful working of the whole Judicial System. He very correctly quoted “Law and order are the medicine of the body politics and when the body politics gets sick, medicine must be administered.”
Dr. Ambedkar had struggled a lot to formulate the nation with his wise-sight. He knew that the people have to be given certain power therefore, he instated Article 32 into the constitution. Rising from the dust and escalating to form gold dust, Baba Sahab came his way through by rebelling the manusmriti. With a halo on the back of his head, Baba Sahab is no less than the God for the depressed class. But the intriguing query lies still within the society- have we arrived to a phase where we remember the great soul for one day but forget his real essence though?
Give a thought.
