Sometimes it is not the journey but it is the companion who makes your journey the most memorable. One of such journey was my 9 months with my Son and my better half. While during our pregnancy we tend to always be surrounded by thoughts about our unborn tiny tot we sometimes tend to ignore the most important person in our lives i.e. our better halves without whom this journey wouldn’t have been so smooth.
When I was expecting Suraj I was still working. I remember Sandeep (San) was equally more excited, tensed, nervous I really have no words to explain the feeling. Many people feel that a child brings distance between a husband and wife but that is just a fiction. Infact, 9 months of pregnancy is nothing but a journey to strengthen your relationship with your spouse. This is the time period which makes you very sensitive towards each others needs as you know these will be your last few days when you will be having your time.
I was always plump even before marriage whereas San was on the slimmer side (I always had an aim in life to marry a slim guy and then make him fat post marriage.). So one thing that always bothered me was the weight gain during the pregnancy. I would always jokingly tell San that If I became pregnant would he also gain weight to give me company. Trust me by the end of my pregnancy, we both had gained equal amount of weight.
Though every moment during those 9 months was special, there are very deeply etched in my mind. Like every pregnant woman, nausea hit me very badly during the second trimester. Leave aside morning sickness, even the sight and aroma of food would make me puke. So after puking the entire day and getting mad at my self, the moment San would come home I would sit all sad face and sulk about the number of times I had to puke. I would then throw my tantrums and insist on going down for Pav Bhaji. Poor San, no matter how much ever he would be tired, he would still take me down for Pav Bhaji and order for extra Pac with extra butter. Even though I would scream and rant , I would barely be able to eat. So in the process of making me and the baby eat good and healthy food San would end up eating both our portions.
Food and sleep are the most important aspects for any pregnant woman. I would always sleep like a dead log whereas San would wake up even if I sneezed at night. On one particular night when all street dogs went crazy and were barking like crazy, which I didn’t realise because I was sleeping. He had closed my ears so that I would not wake up. When I had stirred a little I had realised San had been covering my ears for long.
These 9 months were the best journey I had with San. Your first pregnancy is always special and a child does not seperate the husband and wife, infact it just bonds you even better. Every woman has a different journey about her pregnancy but I thoroughly enjoyed both my pregnancies. Will soon write about the journey of my second pregnancy and how it was different from my first pregnancy.
