INTRODUCTION
Every Constitution Begins with a preamble, and Indian Constitution also begins with a preamble, Preamble is a introductory statement that explains the specific document, The term “preamble” is from the Latin word which means “to go before” or in simple sense it is a “Introduction to important Statute” (Statute is a Law enacted by the Legislature).
The Preamble of India:
WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:
JUSTICE, Social, Economic and Political;
LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
EQUALITY of status and opportunity;
and to promote among them all
Fraternity assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and the integrity of the Nation.
IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this Twenty-Sixth Day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.
SIGNIFICANCE OF PREAMBLE:
1) WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA
The phrase “We the People of India” means that the constitution of India has been framed and enacted by the people of India, and also the power to make the Constitution is available to the people.
2) SOVEREIGN
The word sovereign means supremacy of a nation/country. India as proclaimed in the preamble is a Sovereign Country which is Strong and not controlled, and India is Sovereign Internally and Externally.
3) SOCIALIST
The word ‘socialist’ was added in the Preamble by the 42nd Amendment Act 1976, This signifies that the constitution will follow a socialist pattern of society where there is a Equitable distribution of wealth in the country.
4) SECULAR
The Term Secular states that India is a Secular Country where it considers all Religions to be Equal, and doesn’t show favoritism to any religion particularly.
5) DEMOCRACY
The Term ‘Democracy’ denotes that India is a Democratic Country in which the Rulers are appointed by the Citizens of that particular country and are responsible to them, All who are 18 or above (Legal age) are given the right to vote their rulers (representatives).
6) REPUBLIC
The term ‘Republic’ signifies that India has an elected representative as the head of the state. For example, The president of India is the elected head of the country.
7) JUSTICE
Justice stated in the Preamble of India signifies that Justice should be given to everyone irrespective of their Caste, Gender, Religion, Race, etc.
8) LIBERTY
Liberty in the Preamble means that providing necessary conditions for the full development of an individual.
9) EQUALITY
The term ‘Equality’ means seeing everyone equally and providing everyone the equality of Status and Opportunity.
10) FRATERNITY
The term signifies the feeling of brotherhood and unity among all the sections of people in India.
CONCLUSION
Preamble is a very important introductory statement to make the readers understand what lies inside the document in which they are going to read, and also helps readers to understand the importance of that particular document, and eventually the preamble is written before every constitution of all the countries.
