We live in a Country, where our own dreams are prioritized last. Before we select a hobby, passion or an interest. The first thing that we need to be worried about is, what will the society think, if decide to pursue our dreams.

We live in a society, where we are constantly trying to fix a Square peg in a round hole. It is like there is a Checklist created by the society and every individual is constantly expected to follow the same. If you do not follow the same, Cross, you have done something wrong and are a social pariah. Wow, we have so much time in the world to sit and judge others, but very little time, when it comes to working towards our dream.

During one of my sessions, a student once told me, “Ma’am the fight for roti, kapda and makaan is so tough that a lot of people cannot afford to dream.” True, when we are in college, we are pressurized to excel so that we can get a good job soon, to support our families financially. Once you get a good job, you have to get married because again log kya kahenge as your biological clock is ticking. Once you are married and have kids, you need to slog and start working to pay the bills. Even if you are kind of financially settled and off all your responsibilities, the first question that comes into your mind is..

“Arey yeh thodi na umar hai, apne khwab poore karne ki.“

It is a fact, that India has one of the highest rate of educated unemployment but apart from the Government at fault, somewhere we ourselves are also at fault. Since childhood, we are taught that only if you select a particular subject, you will excel in life. If you select any other profession apart from Medical or Engineering, then definitely something is wrong with you. This demand has given a good opportunity to a lot of business men to open Random Colleges across the Country and charge huge sums in name of Fees and Donation from the families.

Until the MNC’s entered our Country a few years ago, even a job in Private Sector was something that was looked down by the society. Therefore many youngsters, preferred to stay unemployed waiting for that Sarkari Naukri, than working with a private Company. Though today the scenario is changing slowly, but still in some rural areas the craze for Sarkari is still at an all time high.

When we are talking about dreams, why are we ignoring the women. We teach our girls since childhood that the only dream that you can see is about getting married and going to your husband’s house. Career is something that you need to compromise post marriage and motherhood. You decided to pursue your career post marriage, so look out for a way to balance both Career and Family. Yes, but nobody tells you that one can never balance Family and Career, you have to blend both to sail smoothly.

Even though we produce so many Engineers every year, the number of Engineers, who invent and register for Patent are a handful. For us Engineering means high salary and good life but how many of them actually contribute towards research and bring a change in our society.

So hereunder are a few things, that nobody tells you before chasing your dreams:

• Stop listening to the society. Forget about Log Kya Kahenge;
• Age is just a number, whether you are teenager or a grandfather, does not matter, when you want to chase your dreams;
• Plan your life and try to blend your passion in your daily life.
• Yes, dreams also come with a cost, but ensure that you do not burden yourself with the same. For example, you always wanted to learn to dance, start by watching YouTube Tutorials and practice the same, then slowly and steadily decide if you can commit that many hours in a day for your dance and then enroll for a dance class;
• Ladies, do not worry about being judged. You will be judged even for your mere existence, so do not let your relationship status decide for you.

Remember, if Dhirubhai Ambani did not dream we would not have had reliance today.

If Vijay Shekhar Sharma did not dream, there would have been no Paytm,

If Byju Raveendran had not decided to modify the teaching industry, there would have been no Byjus App.

IF Ritesh Agarwal had not dreamed, today we wouldn’t have a simple app called OYO to simplify our Hotel Bookings.

In short, I do not want to live in a guilt or blame my family for being unable to fullfill my dreams. I have one life and I want to live it to the fullest.
