Today is a new day

Let no miseries affect what is waiting in the future, past is just an experience to learn and should not be taken in its very sense. It is necessary to not enable the past with the power to tune the future. Rather, learn how to give up off the things that didn’t mean to be. Having the fortitude to take new turns with the past experience is in itself a matter of achievement. It is rightly quoted by Anne Frank that “I don’t think of all the miseries but of the beauty that still remains”. This quote brings out the message that it is not appreciable to think about the miseries, all that has happened in the past is a lesson for the future which provides us with an opportunity and key to success.

Every individual perceives the idea of miseries in their own manner. The ones who learn to balance the things out are the ones to live their life beautifully. With the right mindset, it is possible for a person to make peace with the past, and to get purpose to his life in the present and have hope about the future. The individuals who dwell with the past miseries only know how to weep and not how to conquer it, on the other hand happy people will look for the solutions to solve their problems. Therefore, “Don’t be depressed about the past, anxious about the future but learn to enjoy the peace that is there at the present”.

To live and enjoy every bit of the present, an individual need to recapture the happiness that lies within himself and the nature. By giving a glance at the beauty of the nature, one tends to forget the past miseries welcoming new good vibes that nature has to offer. Anne Frank mother’s advice in the face of melancholy is “Think about all the suffering in the world and be thankful you are not a part of it”. But my opinion in this context differs from that of Anne Frank’s mother because I believe that a person is completely lost when he becomes a part of the suffering. In that particular phase of suffering, one cannot make a rational decision which further affects the future of that person. At that time, it becomes significant for an individual to believe in themselves and think of the beauty that remains in the sun, nature, freedom and yourself. If a person just looks for it, he’ll discover himself and hence, he’ll stand out.

Ria D’cruz in her article on Anne Frank’s quote “It is not appreciable to think about the misery; You need to think about the beauty that still remains” provides another interpretation of the quote, claiming that smile is the best medicine and the best way to get over all the problems. But, according to me, smiling in the time of misery can only make a person look strong from the outside and cannot help to deal with the problem from inside. Smile is the best medicine reference can work in the short run but not in the long run. It is so because excessive smiling without any reason suppresses your emotions that is needed to be let out and can often lead to depression. To actually let go off the misery that has happened in the past, it is significant to firstly, keep a positive mindset. Secondly, to think rationally about the misery including all the possibilities of what now further could be done to improve it or to examine the way to go ahead in life. Thirdly, to have the ability to never give up, no matter what. Mere smile cannot help to solve the problems, a right mindset with the right amount of thinking is henceforth required to deal with the miseries internally.

Catherine Galasso-Virgorito in her article “Every day is another chance to change your life” mentions a narrative that she read by an unknown author with a profound meaning. In the narrative, Sam had a very bad day, the trip that he hadn’t planned went very unpleasant and he ended up being depressed followed by a series of questions of what he could have or should have done. Then, after some time he realized that he did not have to be in that state of mind, he got reminded of a phrase that said “I can’t change yesterday, but I do have the power to make today a wonderful day. I can be happy, joyous, fulfilled, encouraged, as well as being encouraging to others.” Thus, the narrative is implicit of the fact that no individual has to suffer from any more regret. “We all go through unfair situations, heartache and challenging times. So don’t beat yourself up over situations of the past. Rather, learn from what happened, forgive yourself and take positive action to make your future better. Don’t be discouraged. It’s not too late. Every new day is another chance to change your life.”

Therefore, it is imperative for everyone to understand that no misery is permanent. After darkness there always comes light if a person welcomes it. Every single person has their own misery that they deal with, but the one to find out beauty in every situation with an optimistic approach is the one that succeeds in life and live a happy, healthy life.
